The nights are closing in and your house is vulnerable. Don't leave anything to chance, lock it , close it and light it up when out. The elderly are also vulnerable to tricksters that want to get in their home and steal. Tell them to Watch out for bogus callers and make sure they are safe each night.

Peckham Rye will be visiting the elderly delivering leaflets and giving crime prevention. Please hand out these leaflets to your family to help prevent these crimes from happening.

Don't forget 101 to report, 999 emergencies.

Hi All,

Just a friendly note to remind everyone to be extra vigilant in the run up to halloween and firework night, burglary and property crime increase by up to 160% in this period and a good time for burglars to target properties is on bonfire night its self, as getting through a front door is usually covered by the sound of fireworks. Burglaries also increase in this period right up until Christmas (just after the clocks go back and the evenings are darker earlier).

A few tips for home security are below;

Give you home the 'lived in' look, use timers that turn on lights, or leave lights and a radio or television on if you plan to be out all of the evening.

Lock all doors and windows when you go out (and when you're in), make sure that ground floor windows have key operated locks and that they're used. Also if you have a UPVC (Double Glazed) front door, when leaving ensure that the handle is pulled up and the door double locked using the key - there have been a number of burglaries where doors are not double locked and these can be easily slipped. - When going to bed, ensure that you double lock your front door and keep your keys out of sight but close enough to the door incase the event of a fire. Keys close to the front door and visible through the letterbox can be fished through and this is becoming more common as vehicle security increases and most thefts of vehicles are now by using the owners keys.

Cut back hedges and overgrown trees to leave your property exposed to your neighbours, burglars love hiding places and a tall hedge provides the perfect cover for a burglar to work without gaining any attention.

If you have a burglar alarm, USE IT! Many people only use their alarms when they're away for the weekend or when they go on holiday, get into the habit of your whole family using it each day. Remember that if you've told your insurance company that you have an alarm and its not set and the worst does happen, you might have issues with getting a pay out. If you don't have an alarm consider investing in one, professionally installed alarms are more affordable that you might think, and systems can be installed in 3-4 hours. Speak to us if you're considering a system.

    • Hard to tell, because people arrived and left at various times! Not a huge crowd, but more than were at the first two (this was the third). Probably around a dozen in all.
    • Hi if anyone has Ikea draws. 6 or 4 draw please message me we will collect asap thanks
    • Fair point. But this is the same Starmer, as I said before, that was seen to be the adult in the room pre-election, following the recent run of chancers, crazies and failures?  I really think the demonisation of him is wrong and it seems to be an epidemic. Johnson got away with things because he was this funny clown.  May was seen to be wooden but didn't attract the same backlash and she facked up Brexit. I saw Corbyn speak as a back bencher and he was excellent.  Didn't make him a great leader.  What would are country have looked like if Brown had got in.  Another person demonised by the media due to his bank manager persona. Yes, I get it, that we lampoon our politicians, based on some of their personal characteristics.  Life was so much more fun during the original series of Spitting Image,  Many politicians loved their send ups.  Some even bought the models/puppets.  Blair was first seen as a little school boy sitting between Prescot in his boiler suit, and Becket perhaps unfairly characterised.  Not sure how they'd send him up as a (alleged) war criminal....  Just concerned that we are now so shallow in considering politics. Anyway, it is not just Starmer, it is his party, in particular his advisors. But perhaps give him a break.
    • Thats very sad..they're a lovely local buisness and coming up to Christmas trading too. I witnessed the fire from outside the cordon and there were huge flames leaping into the air..I could'nt tell which shop it was exactly but I did hear a guy telling someone it started in the hairdressers then spread really quickly to the back of the bike shop. So much respect for the brave firefighters I saw running to help and wishing all of them a safe evening.
