Dee Dee
Hi, can anyone help me to understand why the old faded yellow box junctionat the bottom of Friern road opposite the park has been re painted. There isno exit or entry with bollards blocking this end of Friern road so there is no longer a junction. Would there be a fine if entered? With the traffic lights being near there the traffic can build up in rush hour. I have stopped in it in the past thinking it no longer existed and not received a fine but now it is bright yellow again I'm not so sure. Has anyone else noticed? Sally Eva
It is an entry and exit for cyclists. The toucan lights enable them to cross into the park and the yellow box would enables them to turn from and to Friern Road. I don't know that this is the reason but cyclists are road users who benefit from the yellow box. mynamehere
Here's some red meat for you: I'm back from a month traveling coast to coast north to south in the USA and politics aside and the probable reason of police enforcement of traffic violations.... all this ASIDE in most places US drivers stop on a dime for pedestrians and intersections are left clear of cars. TBH I'd like to see a lot more use of boxed intersections here and a lot more courtesy to pedestrians. Enjoy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/128288-yellow-box-junction/#findComment-1063179 Share on other sites
Jeremy
In most places in the USA (except NY/SF), the sight of someone actually WALKING from place to place is such a rare thing, motorists probably stop to stare... mynamehere
LOL Insane country. Very very bad stuff can happen to good people. But over all when a person even comes close to the street and looks like they might cross cars stop. Given: people cross at corners not randomly as they do here. sunbob
I was wondering about this. The only reason I can think of is because it's a fire path ie: emergency vehicle drivers have a key to lay down the bollards and go through. James Barber
Hi DeeDee,Apologies it has taken quite so long but I have some answers for you.The yellow box is active and will be enforced. It's there to ensure access to the end of Friern Road where in an emergency the bollards can be removed for access. Loz
Interesting. The law on box junctions say you can only have box junction as follows:"box junction" means the area of carriageway marked with yellow cross-hatching at a junction between two or more roads on which there has been placed the road markingI would suggest that anyone who gets a ticket in this could argue that whilst the bollards are in place, it is not actually a junction and therefore the yellow box is invalid. Could be an interesting defence. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/128288-yellow-box-junction/#findComment-1128587 Share on other sites
nxjen
Might work if the bollards were fixed but these are temporary bollards that can be lowered instantly. kiera
This junction is, as stated by Sally Eva above, important for cyclists. There is a current consultation on this cycle route.https://peckhamryedulwich.commonplace.is/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/128288-yellow-box-junction/#findComment-1128753 Share on other sites
