Sash Windows with wood effect pvc?

We would like to replace our thin, aluminium sashes from 1989 with something more thermally efficient.

I would love to be able to afford timber ones but at around ?2,000 a window it makes bays very expensive. We're thinking of authentic looking uPVC ones where they at least try to emulate the wood effect.

Would anyone have any recommendations? I had s quote from Bespoke but it was astronomical & I found the guy really pushy and salesy. Wondered if it's worth researching companies in the Kent area.

There's really nothing wrong with white PVC windows. They use them in most new buildings now.

I had mine done and like you had originally wanted wood but I am really happy with the PVC.

Draft proof, quite secure and no more painting. It needs to be done so often.

I got sash in the front and ordinary around the back.

I think most people who get the brown wood effect regret in in the end as it's so dark.

I love mine and recommend.

I have Everest my family and friends have spoken to our local consultant Tony Yardley he's a lovely gentlemen know sales non-sencence just will give you the lowest possible price Everest can do windows are beautiful would not think they are PVC

It's worth giving him a call or email to see

Good luck

Can someone give me a rough idea on the cost on Pvc sash? I've had bespoke round but they've only measured up and said we've got to go into the showroom to see everything and then they'll give us a quote

We need teo bay windows plus one single I don't know if I'm looking at ?2k or ?10k!!

I used Scenic Glazing http://scenicglazing.com & have recommended them to several people who have been very happy with their work. I had a bay window replaced for about ?1,300 about 5 years ago. Prices can vary depending on glass & frame choices and size of windows. I didn't get quotes from any of the big companies as they always seem more expensive. From the quotes I did get Bespoke were the most expensive by far.

They are pricey, My were either ?1800 or ?2800 but the wooden sash were twice the cost. That I remember.

One thing that I will say, if you are getting PVC sash and want to keep them open a couple of inches safely, get the security fitting with the window.

    • As I understand it, Poundland itself  has been saved (and is reassessing what it sells and its pricing strategy) but nevertheless is getting rid of a quite a few stores, including the ED one. There was a thread on here about it before it opened, and Lordship Lane always seemed to be a very odd choice of location for what used to be called a "pound shop".
    • But without knowing why they were removed, I don't see how we can comment. Does anybody know the reason?  I thought Malumbu's post was useful information, given the subject matter of this thread  I didn't think it was patronising.
    • Milo came home briefly last night but was unsettled and incredibly wary of us. We know he's be staying at other people's homes on and off over the summer, and this is very unsettling to him. If he's coming to yours for food or inviting himself in for the night, please turn him away or put him back out. He has a home, he is loved, and he is well looked after when he is here. He probably goes elsewhere as he not a huge fan of his medications or diet, but he has those for a reason. If he's not here, we can't make sure he stays well or be sure he's safe.
    • I would 100% recommend Silvano for anyone looking to learn to drive for the first time or refresh their skills. I took lessons with him after not driving for over a decade and Silvano got me back to driving confidently much more quickly than I thought possible. He’s super friendly and a great & patient teacher. Couldn’t recommend him more!
