One non fault accident (my stationary vehicle hit by another driver who admitted liability and whose insurers settled direct, ie no claim necessary from my insurer)and my car insurance is increased by 50% despite having protected no claims bonus!

How does that one work ?!?!?!? grrrrr

Makes a mockery of fault/no fault and no claims bonus!!

My sentiments exactly! Seems to be common with all insurer's though. I went onto confused.com and did two idential quotes, 1 with no "claims" 1 with a non fault claim - over ?100 difference :-( (admittedly better than my existing insurer).

Problem is although I didn't claim from my own insurance (or even use them), I technically "claimed" against the other driver's insurance so am deemed to have made a claim!

My low mileage, 100% reliable, owned for 11 years, rarely used "old banger" was written off (uneconomic to repair), I was given a pittance and now it costs me extra per year to insure the replacement because I was given the pittance. Not to mention I had to shell out a great deal more than my settlement figure. Very irritating!!!

Doesn't make sense. In fact if it was sorted through the other guy's insurance, you shouldn't even need no claims bonus protection!

When you're filling in your applications for other insurers, shouldn't you be filling it in with no claims instead of one "no fault" claim? It wasn't settled through your own insurance, so you haven't actually made any claims.

I was in a similar situation when my insurance was up for renewal, I had a very minor crash where the other party was at fault, no claim made by myself as it was only a tiny dent but my premium went up even though I gained another year on my no claim bonus, figure that one out. Ended up changing companys but even so I did notice on the comparison sites I would get a cheaper price for no accidents/no claims than 1 non-fault accident/no claims.

    • I’m broadly in agreement with you, Dogkennelhillbilly. But why the meme? It’s a very unfair representation of Sean Dyche, a man who to my knowledge has never engaged in any culture war bollocks. From his Wikipedia entry: Dyche features in an internet meme criticising modern trends in football, in which the phrase "utter woke nonsense" is attributed to him; he said "I wish I'd copyrighted it. Considering I didn’t actually say it, it does follow me around".
    • Whisky Macs, like Harvey's Bristol Cream and Cinzano Bianco & lemonade, are a taste of Christmas past sadly lost to many. A little Whisky Mac and icing sugar whisked through whipping cream makes a festive accompaniment to stollen or Christmas pudding.
    • Legal matters are notoriously slow.  There is no rule that communication has to be via email, fax or letter. If the issue is that you want to claim damages to the property because of poor practice, you would have to lodge a complaint with the ombudsman, but surely the one to suffer the most is the “gold digger” beneficiary?    If that is not the wrong that needs righting, what is?
