Recommendations for affordable bike trailer?

Hello,


I'm a cycling novice & looking into getting a bike trailer so I can get some exercise & take my 2 kids with me on quieter roads & around parks - I won't be using it for commuting.


I can't spend loads, maybe up to ?200ish (from Amazon perhaps?!) and have been looking online. Would really appreciate getting any feedback from knowledgeable cyclists who use bike trailers and can advise on the better ones for space, comfort & safety for the kids, and lightweight for me. I'd also like one that can transform into a pushchair, if that's not asking too much.


Any advice gratefully received. Equally if you're looking to sell one, please let me know!

I looked into getting one last year but I ended up getting a cargo bike which is not by the sounds of it what you are looking for at all! But I did spend a lot of time looking at trailers and after a lot of research I thought the Croozer trailer looked best for price/space/safety. Thule seems to be the most popular more expensive brand. Both of these are expensive but there are a lot of second hand ones on eBay.


I saw that Balfe's Bikes are selling some trailers but I'm not sure which brands/price range.


If you are going to be off-road then I'm sure there are cheaper brands that are perfectly good. But if you are going on busy roads maybe a second hand better built one might be better.


I presume that your children are too young to ride alone but if not there is also a thing called a tail-gator or trail-gator (something like that) which is a post to attach your child's bike to the back of yours and you can detach it once you get to the park so that they can ride alone. But obviously only any use for one child.


I have a Nihola cargo bike which is a massive thing to store and tough to ride up hill but it's a lot of fun and the kids love it - you can hire them in Dulwich Park if you are tempted to give that a go.

Hi, we sell trailers at Balfe's Bikes on East dulwich Rd. We stock Thule which now incorporate Croozer and also other brands. ?200 is an ok budget that we can work with and get you something decent enough in. Pop in for a chat if you like. Thanks, Richard.

Thanks so much for the intel, everyone! Really really helpful. The tagalong things look great, but our two are 3 and 18 months so are a little young for this. One for the future maybe. The Niholas also look great but we have a storage issue and I'd rather go down the trailer route, especially if it can be collapsed and stored in a shed.

      We have had a few cat flaps over the years but none have been electronic. They just have a small clip that you turn to lock or open.  Some come with a magnet and a matching magnet that the cat wears on its collar  This prevents other cats entering.  I've not used these as I don't like the idea of a cat wearing a collar. Cats do like to be out at night and you need to encourage yours to return after a late evening sortie. Calling,rustling treat wrappers worked for ours but he seems to have now got into the habit of coming back about 9pm. without this.

      Having had several cats over the past 40 years - mainly rescue, we have a tried and tested routine, Initially confined to one room with litter tray/food/water - we take it in turns to stay for a few minutes several times a day so they become familiar with our scent. They are gradually introduced to the rest of the house. We have a wire cat basket and we place cat in basket and take them outside, over a few days we place basket in different areas of the garden - grass area/gravel area, patio area etc - different flowers/plants. Some of the more nervous cats we walk around the garden on a lead. They get use to the scent of the garden. We have a cat flap in the back door so they have full access - If we need to keep cat in - just block off the cat flap so they cannot escape! We are now down to one elderly cat - who during the summer just laid on the garden chairs and came in for food, but as weather getting colder prefers to sit on a worktop in the kitchen looking out into the garden. So we are back to the cat litter as she is reluctant to go out in the rain/cold.

      With fibre you are paying for the speed, which is the number, yours is 300 so if you did a lot of gaming, for example, you would want the fastest possible.  If it's just office work or maybe streaming on Netflix you likely won't need as fast, but, if there are a lot of people in your house all doing their own thing on different devices, then faster speeds are better.  I don't rely on my Wi-Fi much other than when I am using my mobile.  I use Ethernet cables to connect up everything, I Have one cable running from my router, along the skirtings and through a hole I drilled in the wall to another room.  I have attached the plusnet speed guide which gives you an idea of how it works.
