Rob tolfts
We're getting a built in desk fitted to maximise space, but the fitter advised we need to move a radiator along the wall.Does anyone have an idea how much this might cost & how long it would take to do? It's on the first floor, floor is floorboards under carpets, the radiator would need to move along the wall only.recommendations/advice appreciated!R. DK_87
had some similar work recently and ?100 a radiator seemed to be the standard quote coming in my direction. But my place was pretty much a building site at the time, so access was a bit easier. adsyb99
We had it done fairly recently and it cost ?180, but we were moving from one end of a room to another, so perhaps that added to the cost. I think it will depend on the piping too, but it should be a fairly straight forward job, ie 1-2 hours.I'd call Maurice (lots of rec's on here). The job I mentioned above wasn't done by him, as we were having some boiler work done at the ssme time too, which he doesn't do, but he's been great for us on several occasions. DulwichFox
1-2 hours seems very optomistic.. Depending on the postion of the rad and the boiler.. a partial or complete system drain may be required. Is it a sealed system ? Where the drain tap is fitted. ? After the Radiator has been securely fitted and pipework has been completed.. The system will need to be refilled. and the each Radiator bleed and the boiler also will need 'bleeding' The boiler will need the pressure adjusted.. and the system fired up and tested for any leaks.. I would think 4-5 hours min. but every job is different DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/129629-costtime-to-move-a-radiator/#findComment-1067560 Share on other sites
Salsaboy
If I were doing it I'd allow a day and that assumes that nothing goes wrong. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/129629-costtime-to-move-a-radiator/#findComment-1067717 Share on other sites
Urban Plumbers
I charge ?120-180 for this kind of work. Time depends on size and type of your central heating system. Full drain down may not be required as you may be able to turn all valves off on other radiators - provided they work and just drain the one you are replacing. Depending on type of the system I would allow between 2-3 hours for the job. It is a good practice to add inhibitors when system is partially drained. If fully drained (not likely to be needed) then inhibitors will have to be added.
