Decent grocers in Peckham or ED?

The Turkish (I think) place at the Goose Green end of Lordship Lane has fruit and veg outside.

I've always found the veg good quality.

Their name now is Organic Village Market and they have a thread on here saying they are just expanding the shop to include an organic butchers and a larger deli.

SMBS on Lordship Lane is very good.

The Grocer in Nunhead is excellent, cheap and lovely staff (I think it;s called Beaumont)

General Store on Bellenden Rd has incredible produce, but it's not exactly cheap, but check before you buy as sometimes t=the veg isn't as fresh as you'd like!

Franklins have good quality stuff, but again not always the cheaper end!

The OP did say "reasonably priced"!!

Both SMBS nor Franklins are quite expensive, though Franklins seems to have unusual fruit and veg you can't get elsewhere locally, so that's fair enough.

I'm sure the quality is high but you can still get good quality and pay less elsewhere.

M&S also has a fresh fruit and veg section. I haven't bought anything from it so I don't know what prices are like, but I have been pleasantly surprised at the prices in the rest of the store so that might be worth a look too?

ETA: Sorry, just realised you were after independent grocers/greengrocers, so forget M&S then! I

SMBS is very reasonably priced for fresh fruit and veg I think, but we can't make assumptions about what is reasonable for the OP.

Agreed that Franklins is a bit more expensive as I highlighted in my original post, but the OP also requested decent quality so it was worth mentioning.

May be a bit far away for you but the Turkish market next to the Rose on FHR has a decent selection of veg, not fancy but decent quality and reasonably priced. They often keep fresh herbs out the back of the shop by the meat counter (you have to ask for them) which are always in really good condition and you get a good sized bunch for your money.

Thanks for all the suggestions - much appreciated!

The grocers on Nunhead Lane and the Turkish deli on Lordship Lane are good shouts. I'll give them both a try

I really like SMBS and do go in there from time to time to pick up the odd thing that I cant get elsewhere, but personally I find it too expensive for day-to-day fruit and veg shopping.

Sometimes I've been able to pick up decent stuff on Rye Lane, but its just a bit unreliable. Khans opposite the station isnt bad but the selection can be limited.

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
