Geddes hair colour offer is a bit of a scam

Just had my hair colour done for the first time at the Forest Hill branch. I have left feeling rather angry and as if I've just been scammed. Was encouraged to try Geddes out with the 40% off colour offer, but at no point was I told that in order to receive the discount I have to pay for a blow dry, which ultimately meant the overall cost for the treatment I went for was pretty much the same. Now I was going to try this salon out anyway as I'm new to the area and was keen to find a local salon so would have been willing to pay full price but since the offer was on it was an added bonus and all the more reason to go. But now I feel cheated by the lack of explanation around the offer when I made the booking and it just makes this salon look bad and quite frankly sly. And what's worst of all is I paid ?20+ for a horrible blow dry, admittedly I have tricky curly hair, but still. If this salons promotes an offer that seems too good to be true then chances are it is!

Did you tell them when you booked that you weren't going to have a blow dry? If so, then I can see why you're cross that they didn't tell you it was a condition of the discount. If not, then I suspect that at this time of year, the vast majority of their clients will have a blow-dry when they leave so they don't take people through all the t&cs. What did the salon boss say when you complained?

I do understand why you might not get a blow dry with curly hair - but how horrible that you don't like it feeling forced into paying for it. Nothing worse than walking out of a hairdressers miserable but at least a bad blow dry is sorted by stepping in the shower. I sobbed for a week after a recent haircut elsewhere that I just had to wait to grow out. Are you happy with the colour at least?

Emcook, you may well be a genuine poster but you may want to be aware that if your first - currently only - post is a bad review of a local business, people will tend to assume you're a rival (or if it's a glowing review, someone from the business in disguise).

A similar thing happened to me at GMs in Melbourne Grove a long time ago. I was given a blow dry afterwards, which I thought was included, but then charged separately for it. It's a very disingenuous way to behave.

Really Susan of the parish, it's not that far from the centre of middle earth. Follow up yonder and straight up the dale, once past the dark lands you come upon the Forest of the Hill. There, beyond the gates of Horniman by a stretch and afore the wheeled metal transport beast station, is Geddes.

Afore and over the track is the giant place that holds many treats of the mouth and belly, Sainsbo's

No but it's right next to Peckham Rye where many people walk their dogs, and my last mention of it was on that thread, I believe.

And there have been several threads on here about it, due to its being London's first community owned pub against all the odds, and having won several awards since.

And still doing well despite all the doom mongers, of whom you were one.

I would suggest that mention of The Ivy House is somewhat different to a first time poster slagging off an obscure hair salon in Forest Hill!

It's true I don't go to Forest Hill very often, so if everybody else has heard of this hair salon, I take back my remarks!

Definitely not a rival. Simply posting info that I would have liked to have been aware of when booking an appointment there. It annoyed me so much I thought I would save others the emotional distress.

You're right it's not in East Dulwich but I imagine a lot of people who live in East Dulwich use Forest Hill station as I do and will be going past this salon daily and be tempted by the offer. Thought it was neighbourly to warn others so they don't have a surprise at the end like I did.

I would hardly call this 'emotional distress' I saw someones face hit a car windscreen last week, and that DID cause me emotional distress.

Frankly I have found since I moved to south london that it seems to be the norm here to charge extra to have hair blowdried after cut or colour.

I find it a bit of a rip-off as my old hair salon that I still go to includes it in the price.

The one time I did try a 'cheaper' local salon I found it wasn't cheaper at all once I'd added 20odd quid for a blow-dry.

I just have straight bobbed hair so its hardly rocket science to dry my hair after a cut.
