h3+
I moved a few months ago to East Dulwich Road. A few weeks a go I spotted an old-ish man going through our recycle bins and separating the plastic, paper, glass, etc. He then went into the general waste bin and starting opening up black bags of rubbish to see if there was anything in there that should have been recycled. This is both rather noble and disgusting. I've seen him a few times now. Has anyone else spotted said chap and how far ranging are his activities?J Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13203-recycle-man/ Share on other sites
Mrs TP
I think I have seen the guy you mean - looks shabby landed gentry down on his luck. I have seen him picking in and out of the bins along the shops between Locale and All Fired Up. Probably close to where you are. h3+
that sounds like him. I fear to speak to him in case he decides to lecture me on my recycling. Peckhamgatecrasher
I want that as my epitaph: both noble and disgusting! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13203-recycle-man/#findComment-359706 Share on other sites

Chick
I believe the man you are referring too has mental health problems which resulted in him losing his job and home. He used to go into the Clockhouse, have a glass of water then go on to some other pub and do the same. ImpetuousVrouw
I would have thought that would be obvious to the OP but hey, can't let someone elses suffering get in the way of a chuckle, can we? peterstorm1985
Let's focus on the noble. If the man's got mental health problems but he's managing to find some purpose in life by doing what is ultimately for all our benefit, then I hope that anyone who sees him wishes him a good day. h3+
I actually spoke to him today. He seems nice enough albeit with an atrocious odour. He told me he did as an example for others which i think is rather noble/. ianr
I've not recently seen them collecting from blue boxes, but I've got the impression from seeing lots of filled ones that the plastic+tin vs glass distinction no longer applies. Is that so? Many boxes now seem to use no divider, and the stuff still gets collected. *Bob*
That's right. Soon it's going to be simply a matter of finding the kitchen space for two blue bags for paper and cardboard, one large box for bottles, cans and plastics, one caddy for composting, one caddy for food waste and one bin for anything remaining.
