Oh yum,now I'm also craving roti canai. I think there's a place near Crofton Park station that does Malaysian food but I've not tried it.Following this thread as I hope someone knows a local place.

On a shameless self promoting note, I make beef rendang with Menu Next Door and I am cooking my next batch possibly Thursday.I know it's not delicious roti but it'seems a tastyear Malaysian treat to spice up a winters night.

can you please put up a link?

My Thursday menu isn't uploaded yet but if you use this link and type in your postcode it shows you local people cooking a huge variety of dishes. You can pre order online and then pick up from their homes. It's a great way to try different food and to meet your neighbours.

I signed up to be a cook as I love cooking and I can't be the only person around this area getting incredibly sick of pizza and burgers at every turn!!

I can post my beef rendang menu when it goes live, hopefully tomorrow. I make it for our annual Street party and the huge pot goes down well and I usually give extra portions to friends and neighbours.

Agreed about C & R ,a favourite in my family.Satay House in Paddington is pretty good too.Sorry again for jumping on your thread Turnip, hope you find a local place to satisfy your cravings.

The Malaysian deli in Brockley is pretty good but the roti canai isn't great, tbh. Bungah Raya in Thornton Heath used to do good roti but the last time we went, no roti and the food overall was only ok. The best place I've been in London is Roti King, near Euston. We usually buy frozen parathas, fry them until crispy, and then do the squishing with the hands to make them all flaky. Big pot of chicken curry.....mmmmmm.

Age dear

I SAID AGE DEAR!

Root canal in Sydenham? they filled it (the canal) in when they built the railway

It's actually pretty easy to make at home. My past few attempts turned out ok...but I still can't do that pizza flipping thing so use a rolling pin to get the dough paper thin.....

If you like Malaysian then check out Norman Musa's afternoon course "Malaysian Street Food" at Leiths Cookery School. I got given this as a present and whist a bit out my usual comfort zone it was brilliant. You'll learn how to make a mean Beef Rending and Roti Canai and the missus says it's the gift that keeps on giving...!

I am a big fan of Trinidadian roti (esp roti channa) and Bajan Spice in Nunhead used to be pretty good for that - haven't tried recently.

For Malaysian roti, Peckham's Helen Graves (foodstories) reckons Euston (which isn't at all local, per the OPs request), but thought I would share:

The Leith's class looks great.

I hope I won't get into trouble for posting this link but a few people asked for it. I am cooking Malaysian beef rendang again this Thursday, also making a veggie version this time with roasted butternut squash. If you fancy buying a portion please click on the link. Anything you want to ask feel free to message me. The rendang is served with rice and a spicy cucumber salad. I love cooking it. It's going to slow cook all Thursday afternoon until the meat is tender.

Had a few minor electrical issues that he solved quickly and efficiently for me along with very good communication, turns up when he says he will and is polite, professional and friendly. • In the country, where I have relocated to these things and dealing with council  for all matters are dealt with  in days… freely admit less population than london. Certainly faster in everything.  Not surprised at all about Thames Water - remember years ago calling them about a leak in road - then it took a week for them to come out, despite daily calls from me. Disgusting at that time the lack of concern and wastage of water. Unbelievable that they are not held to account fir anything and that goes for Southwark Council as well.
    • But without knowing the cause of the repeated leaks, it's impossible to comment really. Poor repairs? Something wrong further up the system? Lack of maintenance?  When one of the leaks in our road recurred shortly after it had been repaired, a TW guy said to me that the repairers must have jumped too hard on the asphalt (?) laid above the point of the repair when they were getting it to settle (?) and broken the repair. I wasn't sure if he was joking or not 🤣
    • But in many cases the leaks are happening in the same places again and again, and every inch of pipe outside the Horniman on the South Circular must have been replaced at least 3 times in the last 15 years! Of course the infrastructure in some areas is old, but locally there's been quite a bit of replacement. To little effect it would seem.
