Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just in from Birmingham - so a bit late with the Rah Rah for tomorrow.

So, not only have we got a fitness session for FREE at 10am meeting by the caf? on the Rye, but.... we also are having a picnic afterwards so bring some food and drinks too :-)

Are you Ready? Yes you are!

Right, a prompt 10am meet and head off for 10-05am. Less chat, more action for tomorrow as it may be as cold as..... 18C. Hold on, thats mild isnt it?

We've had a turnout on ave of 18 over summer, and then up to 24 last Saturday. Me thinks it could be larger tomorrow. Also, this may be Jaxx last session or she may fit in another next Saturday - she is heading off to Bath to live :-(

Catch you in the morning, 1Ltr bottle of water for arm, shoulder and back toning.... and some change for a coffee / tea at the end.

Oh yes, if you are reading this fitness page for the first time - its completely FREE, no membership, annual or weekly fee. This is aimed at powerwalkers and joggers, working to sessions of only 300m then stopping for toning, stretching and other activities. In the damp or wet, there is no rolling around on the grass, no shouting, giving out loud commands - they all come with a smile from me :-).

If you are a power walker or getting back to fitness at an easy pace, I will be with you if you are at the back.

We have had a Summer Tuesday powerwalking / jogging group, this is simply a turn up and work out a route albeit I don't attend this one. If you guys are reading this can you let me know how many turn up if its still going.... and....is it still a powerwalking / jogging group?

OMG, I so missed last week!

This FREE fitness, team building and social group has now over 28,000 hits - awesome!

**Reading for the first time? **

Its completely FREE, no membership, monthly or weekly fee. I'm a former Imperial College Triathlete coach / and forensic technologist, and after many years I'm putting back into the community what I have coached, and for FREE!

Powerwalk, jog, run and sprint, these are in sections of 300m - so the faster ones can use it as 'Speed Play'.

10am, by the caf? on the Rye, and bring a 1 Ltr bottle of water for arm, shoulder and back toning :-)

If you are new, I will pair you with someone. If you are at the back, I will be with you :-)

What a great session today!

We covered 7 or 8 languages whilst we dipped, squated, press-uped and many more easy going toning ..... and all for FREE! We covered around 5Km too in sections of just 300m.

Some serious team building for tomorrow as we have now entered into Autumn!

The Oxford proverb says, "there no such thing as bad weather, only wrong clothes."

See you all by the caf? for 10am, with a 1Ltr bottle of water for arm, shoulder and back toning.

Yay!

Hip joints will be getting loose now - so take it nice and easy.

Come along at the end for a tea / coffee, or do a gentle walk and meet us up at the top for the last 10-mins and walk back with us.

Members like you make this group so fantastic, do what you can but..... dont do the final push while doing a session with us, unless Martina is there - the expert in child birth :-)

Be good!

    • Two subjects here.  Xmas cards,  We receive and send less of them.  One reason is that the cost of postage - although interestingly not as much as I thought say compared to 10 years ago (a little more than inflation).  Fun fact when inflation was double digits in the 70s cost of postage almost doubled in one year.  Postage is not a good indication of general inflation fluctuating a fair bit.  The huge rise in international postage that for a 20g Christmas card to Europe (no longer a 20g price, now have to do up to 100g), or a cheapskate 10g card to the 'States (again have to go up to the 100g price) , both around a quid in 2015, and now has more than doubled in real terms.  Cards exchanged with the US last year were arriving in the New Year.  Funnily enough they came much quicker this year.  So all my cards abroad were by email this year. The other reason we send less cards is that it was once a good opportunity to keep in touch with news.  I still personalise many cards with a news and for some a letter, and am a bit grumpy when I get a single line back,  Or worse a round robin about their perfect lives and families.  But most of us now communicate I expect primarily by WhatApp, email, FB etc.  No need for lightweight airmail envelope and paper in one.    The other subject is the mail as a whole. Privitisation appears to have done it no favours and the opening up of competition with restrictions on competing for parcel post with the new entrants.  Clearly unless you do special delivery there is a good chance that first class will not be delivered in a day as was expected in the past.   Should we have kept a public owned service subsidised by the tax payer?  You could also question how much lead on innovation was lost following the hiving off of the national telecommunications and mail network.
    • Why have I got a feeling there was also a connection with the beehive in Brixton on that road next to the gym
    • Ah, thanks,  it all comes flooding back. I've actually been to the Hastings shop, I'd forgotten all about it, along with her name! Didn't she (in between?)  take over what  was then The Magnolia, previously The Magdala, now The Lordship, with her then partner? Or is that some figment of my imagination?  In fact, didn't they transform it from The Magdala (much missed) to The Magnolia? With flowery wallpaper covering the front of the bar? Which reminds me of the pub's brief period after The Magnolia  as the ill-conceived and ill-fated The Patch.
    • Looking for crate/toys/play pen etc. Ideally will buy in a bundle. Can collect!
