How did this happen? I'm sure it will be great, but in two weeks i am taking extended leave to look after my 7 month old daughter, and yep, i am starting to panic.

I'm sure Monkey Music and swimming in the pool will be great and all, but i'm hoping there will be some like minded Dads around to hang out with sometimes to keep my brain ticking along.

So... are there any groups or other Dads that hook up from time to time during the week with their babies and kids.

If so, i'd be keen to tag along and would welcome hearing from people.

Cheers,

A

Not during the week, but every other Saturday there is a dad's only playgroup at Ivydale Childrens Centre in Nunhead. You could mayber pop down and see if you can hook up with some of them there.

As far as they go, the Ivydale playgroup (Mon, Weds, Fri 9 - 11.15) is the one I have seen the most dads at - there are at least 2/3 regulars (who are lovely and friendly). The group itself is run by a man.

I think there is something for Dads only at Peckham library as well - if you have a look at the "Whats On" guides online at Southwark Coucil webiste it will tell you.

My OH does FT childcare of our 14mth, he goes to Bookstart for Dads @ Peckham Library 10-12am every Friday. It's run by a Father Development Worker, Theo, who may know about other things too. We've found that fathers specific stuff is often on a weekend. Most of the groups are mummy heavy, inevitably I suppose, but don't let that put you off.

Good luck & enjoy your new job! You'll have such a special bond with your little one.

I used to be one of the only dads on a wednesday at 1 o clock club, but there are definitely more of us, especially during the summer holidays. Some mums look at you as if you are just about to eat / abduct their children, (presumably these mums have never met a man before), but most are brilliant fun to hang out with!

    • You don't need a gym to lose 10kg. Get a set of dumbbells and maybe a resistance band, find a HIIT channel you like on youtube and workout in your room, eat clean and go out every day. £115/mo is ridiculous. I thought they were supposed to be about £20 to £30 and most people give up come February anyway.
    • Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
    • Tawny owls are hooting in Dawsons Heights very near me. But very elusive birds. Sadly now on the amber list.  I have heard the owls every night for the past couple of weeks  It is good to know they are here. They are quite loud so I think they are very near. I have never seen an owl in the wild before and wish I  could  see them.
