I get bored with standard veggies at xmas, I had the idea of making balls of carrot and swede and was planning on using a melon baller.

Do you reckon this is possible? would i be better off softening them up first? I then want to finish them off with butter and star anise and don't want them to go to mush...

No probs, here to help!

😃

Life really might be a bit too short, plus surely you'd only get one ball out of the thick end of each carrot? An alternative might be to source Parisian Market carrots, which are almost spherical (about an inch in diameter) and very delicious. Not the season for them but posh emporia might have frozen/out of season ones (though probably at a stiff price). Alternatively, if you're bored with the same old same old, roasted radishes with thyme, olive oil and sea salt, finished with lemon juice, make an interesting substitute.

The Jones don't ball carrots

But maybe there's a round theme here

I saw that on Sunday morning. He used the smallest melon baller I've ever seen - it was about 1cm in diameter.
