jacks09
I get bored with standard veggies at xmas, I had the idea of making balls of carrot and swede and was planning on using a melon baller.Do you reckon this is possible? would i be better off softening them up first? I then want to finish them off with butter and star anise and don't want them to go to mush... Sue
Raw carrots are really hard.I can't see how you could ball them without cooking them a bit first! jacks09
Cheers Seabag - useful input.I'd counter that you commenting on a thread about something you disdain would mean that maybve you need to get a grip.In any case, merry xmas to you and yours. Jeremy
Boil. Mash. Roll into balls. Roll them in seasoned flour (optional nuts, sesame seeds, etc) and deep fry.Might actually taste OK then. rendelharris
Life really might be a bit too short, plus surely you'd only get one ball out of the thick end of each carrot? An alternative might be to source Parisian Market carrots, which are almost spherical (about an inch in diameter) and very delicious. Not the season for them but posh emporia might have frozen/out of season ones (though probably at a stiff price). Alternatively, if you're bored with the same old same old, roasted radishes with thyme, olive oil and sea salt, finished with lemon juice, make an interesting substitute. maxxi
Forget balls, go to that stall in NthX rd mkt and buy some of her little rainbow carrots - yes, they may be a bit of a fad and a bit pretentious but they taste very, very good and look pretty. Yes they do. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/134013-can-you-ball-a-carrot/#findComment-1080987 Share on other sites
