"I'm sure it is - but PECKHAM ? Is a good coffee worth being shanked for ? is a nice biscotti an acceptable prelude to a drive by shooting by crack addled hoodies out joyriding and looking to sate their SE15 bloodlust ? lets keep this ED please. we dont want any of that SE 15 stuff innit bludz."

I live in East Dulwich and I do not appreciate this comment at all. I wander into Peckham practically every weekend, and I've come across many really nice people. Let's not be like the readers of the Daily Mail, and put everyone into the same sack, unless of course you are one, and frankly that would explain a comment such as this.

Those nice people must be the exception that proves the rule. Peckham is a horrible place, where you are more likely to be knifed or mugged than to get a drinkable coffee, and we certainly don't want you 'orrible ED lot coming along and trying to change that.

Incidentally, the cafe on Bellenden Rd near the Victoria does a decent coffee (sorry, can't remember its name).

it's just that my friend mike from wellington is a die-hard new zealand republican and thinks of the british royal family as a bunch of lunatic in-bred prussian scroungers:

ergo, having a british royal family and being seen as a colony to him, well one can see his point...

kind regards

This has been bugging me for a few days now - what is a bacon and egg pie? Is it like a quiche type thing? Or we talking something more along the lines of a pastie tyoe arrangement?

ETA - Sorry to take the thread slightly off topic.

Bacon and egg pie is the ultimate kiwi picnic food. In a pastry case (puff or flaky pastry) like a normal pie, but full of bacon and eggs. Some people add other things, but the version I remember as a kid is simply bacon and eggs.

Here's a link to a recipe (although I'm still on the lookout for someone's tried and tested recipe):

Might have to make one of these this weekend!

Mmmmmm, lolly cake - not possible to make here as you can't get ingredients close enough to their NZ equivalents. My Mum always sends me some in my Christmas box :)

I recently spent a stupid amount of money online ordering all sorts of NZ goodies - K bars, toffee milks, pineapple lumps, rashuns, Griffins gingernuts, toffee pops (I'm pregnant, that's my excuse!).

lol why isnt it caled a flit white cos thats how the nz lot seeme to pronuonce it lol not that i harve evr heard one dicussing coffffe though as there usual mantra is a nevr ending bleat buot how shite it is here munich beerfest antics bunggee jumping steinlarger an tiresom rugby relatad rubbish lol
The chocolate covered bananas in Hope and Greenwood are the nearest I have come to marshmellow easter eggs (my particular weakness) much cheaper than the extortionate prices for the real marshmellow-y goodness available at Kiwifruits. Although this does not always prevent purchase of the real thing at Easter...
I have been searching for a decent flat white (back to that) for a decade - South London Gallery makes the best I've found anywhere near here. Monmouth is good, and that Taylor St place (is that the one up the arcade in the city? if so, yes + lamingtons). I assume all the Ozzie cafes in London will do a proper one as well. Wouldn't mind finding a decent spirulina and maybe a proper savoury muffin for ballast. PS I have an original Atomic cookbook fm the mid-1990s(leaving pressie)can't say I've ever cooked anything from it as I'm a bit basic woman's weekly rather than ottolenghi, however if anyone wants a borrow I'll happily lend out.
Outside ED, the best coffee I've had in London is from Prufrock (Leather Lane, Shoreditch and Whitecross mareket), with honourable mentions to Taylor St, and of course Monmouth. In ED, best coffees IMO are from Jacks and Homemade.
It may not be East Dulwich but we can highly recommend Federation Cafe in Brixton Market Village. The coffees are all NZ/Aus style. I am not a milk drinker but appreciate being able to ask for a 'long black' and then get what I was expecting. What is an absolute pleasure is their bacon and egg pie, if you know a good one you don't need it described just go and try it- quite small pieces but I am just greedy. Other delights are friands, ANZAC biscuits and we have even seen Russian fudge there. In short, if you are a NZer it will feel satisfyingly familiar, if you are not you will simply think it has superb coffee and food.

Well for sure you could always bring along your own grappa in a flask, we serve segafredo.

As for flat whites, we don't have it on the menu, but when asked, do oblige with the customers version, as each seem to differ!

    • The SE22 Evri delivery family are lovely, and always say hello wherever we spot them in the area. We gave them a box of chocolates during Covid as they were working their socks off at Christmas
    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
    • Depends on what the Barista says doesnt it? There was no physical confrontation with the driver, OP thinks she is being targetted when she isnt. These guys work min wage under strict schedules so give them a break unless they damage your stuff
