A warning to residents that there have been multiple vehicle break ins on the toastrack in Camberwell in the last few days. This has involved smashed windows, items stolen and a lot of damage. According to residents, the method of the burglary is strikingly similar to previous spates of thefts that occurred a couple of years ago - in those (and these) circumstances, the thefts seem to occur when cars are parked on the bits of the roads less visible from occupied houses. Please be aware of this, particularly if is spreading. Police have been informed.

From a personal point of view, this is yet further proof that a CPZ is desperately needed on these streets to reduce congestion and allow cars to be parked safely in front of houses, and not streets away whereever a space is available. Lets hope the Recent consultation is a Yes vote for a CPZ when its announced next month.

Living just four hundred yards from East Dulwich station we're also only a third of a mile from the "toastrack" streets, so I'm grateful for the headsup and will make sure we don't leave anything valuable in the car. Criminals are not, on the whole, great respecters of geographical boundaries.

    • I'm thinking of going to India at Christmas and it's been 18 years since I last visited. So long ago, I can hardly remember where I went (I was there for 8 weeks...). Has anyone been to the South recently? I'm thinking Kerala, as we fancy some beach action.
    • If it's not bolted down it gets stolen, terrible. Some people have no respect for others property.  Hope you reported it to the Police and got a crime reference number, what did they say?
    • Try pavement, this is London, not the US. The Mayor increased his proportion of council tax in 2025/26 to pay for "more" haha PC's but my understanding is they were cut not increased. A rouse by the Mayor to take more and give nothing in return.  Troubling and far too common here.  Just be careful where you get it out
    • Just saw one of them on lordship lane scanning the area on the sidewalks in a hood and mask on an e-bike.  I just pointed at them pretending that I was on the phone with the cops and he darted away.  Absolute scum. Hard problem to solve. I'm hopeful there are strategies in place to keep our community safe for this but it's troubling.
