Meat Quality of William Rose

Anyone who thinks Post Brexit will send the country down the pan has not been paying attention

to the state of the Country over the past 20-30 years.

Why do people continue to moan about..

The Tranport System.. Trains .. Buses.. ?

The NHS.. Doctors.. Appointments ?

Job Loses ... Unemployment... Redundancies... Pay..

Housing.. Shortages.. Affordability.. Homelessness..

ETA.

Schools.. Choices.. Location.. Availablity..

It's already happening without Brexit ..and nothing is being done...

Brexit cannot be worse.. for the majority of people..

Yes. They have some great stuff in there

We had a shoulder of lamb for Christmas Day and a lovely thick Cote de Bouef for Christmas Eve. Both were really nice. The shoulder was about ?11. We (2 of us) were stuffed on Christmas Day and had enough leftover for lamb curry for 3 today.

I used to live opposite and I'm gutted I don't anymore!

William Rose is a little hit and miss for me. I've had some great stuff from there but occasionally it's not been so good.

Big thumbs up for the Butchery in Forest Hill too.

I used to work with the Food Technology team at Waitrose. I know how much effort big supermarkets put in to ensure the source of the meat is as claimed. I must say I now have more confidence with the meat quality from supermarkets than any independent butchers.

British farming standard is known to be one of the highest within Europe. I am more than happy to pay more for British produce. However I am not prepared to pay a premium just for European produce to be processed or packed in the UK.

WR is a reasonably priced butcher, no doubt. However, for my family, we do want to support British farmers and British standard, I just don't feel I can blindly accept the verbal guarantee from WR any more.

I don't disagree with everyone's sentiments, however, I'm not convinced WR is misrepresenting its meat based on the experience of the first post (Be blessed). It seems unlikely WR expects to get away with lying about the origin of the meat when it's in its original packaging and clearly labelled. Perhaps the counter person was misinformed/mistaken/a bit lax?

I've been convinced by the integrity, quality and prices of WR over many years. But I'm definitely out of there if I've got this wrong. It will be a major let down if East Dulwich can't rely on them.

    • I know I'm a bit premature but don't want to forget through too much Chrisntas cheer! Southwark Council Christmas trees recycling arrangements 2025 - bit worrying for the future that they're emphasising the free bit. "We’ll collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free!  Trees should not be taller than 5ft. You should chop any taller trees into smaller pieces. Remove all decorations and the pot or stand and recycle it by: putting your tree with your garden waste containers on collection day requesting a free collection if you do not have a garden waste collection  taking it to our Reuse and Recycling Centre [43 Devon Street, SE15 1AL open 08:30-16:30 Mon-Sun] If you live in a flat you must leave the tree: outside on the kerb visible for the collection crew not in a bin store" I'll add the link to the collection booking service when it opens on 22 December.
    • Most homes in East Dulwich / Good Green ward have collections on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. So no changes for them this year.  But for those few local homes with collections normally on Thursdays or Friday, with Christmas, Boxing day happening on Thursday and Friday any blue, brown or green bin collections will be delayed by two days. So Thursday 25 December collections will be on Saturday 27 December and Friday 26 December collections on Sunday 28 December. For New Years day those Thursday collections will be on the Friday 2 January and those with normal collections of Fridays that will be on Saturday 3 January. To double check when your Southwark Council rubbish, recycling, food waste, garden waste collections will be taking place please please check here - https://services.southwark.gov.uk/bins/lookup
    • Luckily I don't really any regular reason to park at Dawson Heights.  It must be very difficult for the residents I do feel for them.  Thank you for them.  I just presumed that Southwark owned the estate and would be responsible for parking enforcement there.
