Seeking charity work

Recommended Posts

We just moved to Herne Hill (off of Half Moon Lane) and I'm looking to find some charitable weekend activities for my girls (4 years old / 9 years old) and I in the neighbourhood. (e.g. care home help, working in a soup kitchen, tending to homeless animals, etc.) Any recommendations gratefully received!

Hi Cat

Try Dulwich Helpline, they are based in the old Dulwich Hospital and they help older people.

Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches Care

Overview

Both Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches Care were founded in 1993 to help older (60+) residents living in two adjoining areas in Southwark to continue to participate in their communities, even when they found getting out increasingly difficult. In 2012 the two charities amalgamated and decided to expand their area of operation to most areas in Southwark in order to offer sustainable services to isolated older residents.

DH&SCC works to improve the quality of life and the physical and mental health of isolated older residents in Southwark. Including dementia.

by recruiting and supporting volunteers to befriend them and provide emotional and practical support, and

by organising community and group activities for them

They combat loneliness and we enable older people to live in their own homes for as long as possible.

Becoming a DH&SCC service-user is free of charge. To benefit from any of their services you must be 60 or over and reside in Southwark.

    • Hello.   Thanks Nigel and Hparker 😀   I've got new slots available for new students looking for a piano teacher or guitar teacher.   You could start in the new term beginning September, or I'm also available adhoc-styles through the summer holidays at times.   I teach all ages, in most styles, in lots of different ways according to how you learn/like to learn.   Give me a call or text on 07730 402336.   I have connections to lots of performance opportunities/networks too.   I run regular events /student concerts, and play in bands/perform.   Natalie.
    • So do I, but I think they are in trouble as well.  Anyway, that space wouldn't be big enough.
    • I'm not talking about Starmer. I was responding to a post which  said that  Corbyn was unelectable. How people voted in the "more hotly contested election" is irrelevant. Corbyn wasn't leading the Labour Party then. Starmer was. And the turnout for Labour reflects that.
