Hi there

I've come across this thread whilst looking for tutors/revision strategies etc. I appreciate this thread is quite old, but I wonder if someone (Collyflower?) might send me the details of homeschooling in the area please. I'm thinking my Year 7 child might be a candidate for this, so would like to do some research.

Many thanks.

Hello! my lovely 4 years old will be off to reception next year (2019). He has selective mutism , which means that he is verbal only in specific situations and with specific people. He is NOT shy ( as CAHMS is trying to portray)and he is very playful and sociable with other children. I am a SEN teacher myself and in the light of cuttings in the mainstream school, I am concerned that he will be left to his own device because of a lack of resources. Said this...I am looking into alternative provisions that will allow him to learn at his own pace. I cannot afford to leave my job and homeschool him, but I was wondering if it would be possible to enrol him in a group of children who are been homeschooled by other parents in the area if this makes sense? Any advice will be very much appreciate :)

Hello,

I have been home educating my sin for a year.

The only alternative options that I know are 2 democratic settings in the area that offer services for home educating families:

FreeWeGrow in Forest Hill

and

Wayfinders in WestNorwood.

They are both paid.

As for parents that organize themselves to share childcare it?s best to meet other home ed parents. I am happy to meet up with you to have a chat and share what I know. Please pm me if you would like to meet up.

Hello,

I have been home schooling my son fir a year.

The best way to start would be probably to visit PlayProject in Dog Kennel Adventure Playground in East Dulwich one Friday. There are lots of local home ed families that meet there every Friday 11 am - 3 pm. We won?t be there this Friday, but if you want together we can arrange sth for Friday 5th October or meet up in a cafe first and we can have a chat first. Please pm me if any of this inyerests you.

HI! I think homeschooling is not good for children, because they lose an important part of socialization. First of all school is needed for communication with other children, because knowledge you can take on https://www.wikipedia.org/, but the internet can`t give friends to you.

I agree. Don?t engage. It was VincentVs first and only post. Clearly trolling. Nasty business. Clearly someone for whom school socialisation didn?t do a great job.

    • Hallo As far as I know  info you have quoted is wrong.  You can phone for an appointment although I have always found it easier to do online. Go to their website for info on how to book appointments Any requests I have made have been reviewed and answered by a GP within 4 hours
    • Nadia did a great job tidying up my very very overgrown yard. (See the before and after photos). I live in New Zealand and my tenants said a neighbour has been complaining about the out of control ivy. Nadia was easy to contact so over WhatsApp, managed to liaise between me and my tenants. Her quote was reasonable for the amount of work that needed doing, and the end result is great! She sent photos throughout so I could track progress. Would highly recommend her to others.
    • My car was stolen a few months back from my driveway but I had a tracker and found it in a private car park in Lavender Hill close to the police station. I was lucky. The thieves hide it up against that eventuality. High spec cars are targeted I'm afraid. The way it was stolen required the thieves to wire in their own computer accessing a front light (which had had a metal sheet welded across which they prised off). They had searched for a tracker but not found it. They also had to cut away a steering wheel lock. They had to come well tooled up and briefed to do what they did. Beating them off is non trivial. As I said, them not finding my tracker was just lucky.
    • Been with The Gardens now for around 30 years and very rarely do I have a problem. I went in to collect a form and mentioned that my leg was hurting and hot- was seen immediately by the Practice nurse who then arranged an appointment on the Saturday with the Extra care service at TJ Centre where I saw a doctor, who then sent me off to Kings for further tests.. I recently booked a flu jab but appointment is in 2 weeks.
