Does anybody know what is happening to the building at St Peter's Church at Dulwich Common? They seem to have had some quite elaborate clear perspex covers installed over all of the windows and quite extensive scaffolding to the rear visible from Cox's Walk. It is an attractive Victorian building and good to see that work is being carried out but I am curious about what is happening. There are no planning notices posted so that doesn't help.

No.

No Church of England ownership or involvement at all now, and therefore no vicar.

The interesting thing about the church is that it is Grade II listed. It was constructed between 1873 and 1875 and the Tower built later in 1885. It was designed by Charles Barry Jnr. What intrigued me was the new external windows which appear to be made of clear perspex. They have been cut to the Gothic shape of the windows frames.
I seem to remember that the Dulwich Society was urging Southwark Council to take enforcement action to get the church to remove unauthorised alterations to this listed building and reinstate it to its previous condition. I don't know to what extent the Society was successful in this effort, if at all.

    • I haven't had a rude EVRI delivery but last week I had an unexpected delivery at 10.42 pm. He didn't ring the bell or knock on the door (or rattle the letter flap) but just took a photo and put the box down.  If it hadnt been for the door camera giving us a beep we would never have known there was a parcel ready to sit there all night.

    • I have a rescue Spanish greyhound (galgo) from the charity mentioned above. You can contact Greyhounds in Need or one of the more local Kent greyhound rescue charities. They are fantastic family dogs. They do love walkies 2 or 3 times a day but they actually don't need to be walked too far and then they will happily loaf around on the sofa being very chill. They are brilliant with kids but not recommended if you own a cat as they have a strong prey drive. They also should be kept on the lead in local parks. They prefer to be around other sight-hounds (well my one does) and there are loads of local sighthound owners in Peckham, Crystal Palace etc and a very lively WhatsApp group that is brilliant if you need dog sitting as you can usually find someone to do that for free in return for you looking after the dog at a later date etc.
