I'm due to change next month, and in spite of being uncool, have always stuck to the blackberry because, like you, I'm constantly emailing. For that reason, I'm quite excited about the Torch. Is shiny shiny nice, but functional. I want it now.

Blackberry is norm for us but if its not cool enough for you the firm will allow you to buy your own iphone and the firm pays the contract.

Standard Chartered have already started giving employees iphones instead of Blackberrys, apparently. UBS and JP Morgan are both running iphone/Android trials, hooked up to the company's mail servers.

How about the new phones from Google and this with Android system. Are they enough reliable. Anyway, today there are too many phones which can provide you such issues like email, social network and etc. I`m not a big fan of Iphone. Only it`s touch control is marveolus, other thing crap. I personally prefer for business stuff, the HTC or Nokina N900. I`m looking for forward answers.

Give your kiddies crack then record everything they do in your server logs... Nice! Guess they must be bulking up their Security and HR teams for all the disciplinaries they'll be managing over the coming months. Then again it'll probably only involve the back-office staff as the traders and money boys will still be able to surf porn, harass female colleagues with upskirt photos shared around the desks and irritating the cr@p out of each other with dumbass ringtones.

Would be very interested to see how this affects productivity at work.

Anecdotal evidence here at work after the arrival of iPhones was a hell of a lot of people browsing the Web and watching media during work hrs, not so much for those without these media joy toys.

Had the HTC Desire HD for 2 weeks now and am more than happy.. mostly...

Pros:

Good call quality both ways, good speakerphone.

Slick interface via HTC Sense UI and Froyo.

Big screen with good visibility even on as little as 25% brightness

Happily plays wmv's, avi's and divx's without having to resample and supports sub-titles.

Built in browser works well (fine with YouTube, fine with BBC, TVCatchup). Better than mobile FireFox (more glitchy with vids) and Opera mobile. Dolphin pretty good with loads of controls and add-on features, like "proper" FireFox.

Plenty of good free apps and games

Removeable battery! (Spares <?16 from Play.com)

32GB max micro-SD card.

Recharges and connects via micro-USB (like Blackberry) so dont have to drag proprietary cables about.

Cons:

Eats battery for breakfast and lunch if you hammer at it with all the media and networking features as well as the screen turned up. (8hrs became 36 on light use incl 60 mins talk, 90+ mins browsing, 30 mins streamed video).

Need to acquire a couple of system management tools to flush out memory every so often despite what Froyo is meant to do to keep itself working. This will prevent slowdowns and battery drain. Can't seem to stop it from loading up some apps I never use every so often, hence need for tools mentioned.

Only 1+GB onboard

It's far superior to my LG Arena for keeping connection but still can't vouch for it being solid as T-Mobile 3G coverage so flaky and it's "accelerated" - B*||*#?$ it is.

I am in agreement with dulwichmum, using the iphone4 for a high volume of emails would be more time consuming.

I have had my iphone4 for a few months now, and like dulwichmum I would not recommend it for general business use, and also until a few little improvements have been made to the user interface. I only decided to go for this particular phone because of the HD camera, film making applications and the battery life, as I need to be able to use it quickly whilst out on sets and locations and needed something I could rely on to do the tasks I need to do.

What I have found to be an issue with this phone, especially in this weather is the touch screen so if you are out and about and wearing gloves it is near enough impossible to use the phone. Sometimes it will also drop signal whilst in the middle of a call, even with the casing that they have provided to amend the design flaw with the ariel, and the wifi functionality takes a long time to work if you really need to use it.

All have their issues I think. Like DM, I need a blackberry for emailing purposes. I like that the Torch has a touchscreen, a much bigger screen, better web capabilities, good maps and a better camera than previous berries (although none is my main reason for choosing it). I like that it still has a type pad. But boy oh boy, it's a chunky monkey, and I reckon about twice as heavy as other phones.

For Android phones try Juice Defender in the market to manage power consumption. I've just got the free one and it's increased by battery life by (checks phone) a factor of 1.79 in the last 24 hours.

Well then sonny, I could tell you a thing or two about camera phone usage, having worked on a campaign for Sony Cybershot phones a couple of years ago. Only it wasn't very interesting and I've forgotten it all. Basically, loads of people use them.

I use mine quite a lot. I don't take my camera out with me on a daily basis, and when I see something interesting, I like to capture it (although, given what's going on on another thread, I suspect you wouldn't have been interested in my "interesting"-shaped ice pattern). I'm more about the weird signs, broken Rubik's Cubes and stray pink gloves than I am about bands at a gig. I prefer memories to pictures that prove I was there.

I chose my phone specifically for the camera. It's not been the best phone in terms of the software interface, but I cant fault the 12.1mp camera, with proper flash. I have taken some better photos with it than with my proper DSLR camera.

As the cliche goes your best camera is the one you've got with you. I'm a big htc fan but their cameras are poor, it'll be a factor for me next time round.

Don't bother with the admittedly beautiful and impressive live wallpaper feature though, your battery will last about 6 minutes.

i too agree, sgs2 is best android phone out there in the market however it has its high cost but at the same time it has got so much to offer with big screen, better camera and advanced processor as compared to its predecessor sgs. However it depends upon an individuals requirement taking into consideration like cost and usage this is what i feel.

Hence to an average user taking a taste of first smart phone then htc wildfire s will be a nice choice (as it was my first android phone that i owed in my life) and as per my experience with wildfire (cos i have used it for almost an year) beside battery issues (battery life sucks as it drains so quickly hence to those concerned with battery its not a gud idea) it has got everything best as per its capabilities and cost including 3.2 inch gorilla glass display screen (at least capable of better web browsing, reading ebook as well as watching videos) with nice android os (android 2.3 gingerbread as all other latest smart phones have and also has sense UI), average processor (this is a second let down issue but to me it wasn't major however it adversely affected gaming capabilities as it lacked a best processor but only to those who has concern for gaming. Anyways hd video watching is best on it and this amused me too though it lacked a better processor) besides better storage capacity and maximum RAM.
