AlexC
Give this a try:To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:Be sure the computer is shut down.Press the power button.Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).During startup in Mac OS X v10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup. muser
Thanks for that AlexC. My machine doesnt make that noise, so I missed the opportunity, but there is now progress!!The window is now not frozen and the force quit keys function. Which gave me a chance to force quit 'finder not responding' So far so good, but now its all frozen again and that spinning pizza is not allowing me select finder not responding!!I think Ill try unplugging again.Mik Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13992-mac-pro-frozen-ideas/#findComment-376133 Share on other sites

plimsoul
have you managed to shut it down? were you really copying 6800 files or did it spin into the basket ball of love for nothing?it doesn't sound like a hardware problem. when you had the chance to force quit would it shut down? or did you not try? i didn't think that you could quit finder you just close the window, it's the apps that quit?? but i was in mac support years back...any joy?
