Who are you speaking for when you say 'we'? I find I am excluded.

Putting the topic of the thread to one side, I agree with quids on this. We don't need a whole page of our local forum taken up with threads based on one person and how much you hate them. One thread is more than enough, admin sort this out please.

Louisa.

This is a public community forum and as such reflects the concerns of the community. I have little interest in many of the subjects discussed (dog poo, what is such and such shop going to be, bad service received in shop, football to name but a few) but they are clearly of interest to many of those who live in East Dulwich and beyond and have every right to be discussed on the Forum, indeed it is what makes the Forum vibrant. Or is this desire to close threads down a reflection of the current zeitgeist which appears to be limiting free speech or a desire to live in a comfortable bubble of complacency?

(FWIW, and I see little reason why I should defend myself, you will see that my post regarding the petition precedes the other one)

Everybody has though. Look what discord Trump has sown on this forum.

I'd ban him even if he moved into ED.

I should love to agree with you and blame Trump for discord on the Forum but there's been discord on the Forum for as long as it's existed!

ETA. Oh ... I don't always get irony

It would be good to have just one Trump thread as there are a lot of different aspects to his presidency and we don't need a thread for every one.

As for a state visit, wasn't that to be expected given the UK needs the US and him onside? What is the point of objecting? May has just done an arms deal with Turkey. Object about that too. It is at least as distasteful.

I think he should come, see the feelings of people outside of his own bubble.

We've had worse/as bad people here. It's part of showing what a democratic country looks like. As long as demonstrations are organised and peaceful, and there no 'fake news' we'll be good.

As for his safety, that'd be a challenge and expensive, maybe he could borrow the Bullet Proof Pope Mobile.

Reagan came in similar circumstances at the height of Greenham Common/Cruise protests - so agree

Take a moment, listen at 13:26pm to Sir Malcom Rifkin. Not always my favourite person, but I've a great deal of respect for his experience in matters.

His words on the visit are wise and measured. He even called Milliband's view on the matter 'silly' which made me laugh out loud.

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
