YeH pretty pathetic - him of all people. Perhaps trying to obviate himself from blame.

Wow I've never seen this word before: excoriating - from the Grauniad article. More seriously has this thread run it's course/evolved into the bigger issue of US democracy, the evolution of the Republican Party, populism and the US's place as leader of the free world? Now that he will be out shortly. OK that is four threads....
Despite Trump reportedly recently refusing to pay Rudy Giuliani his 2mths of fees, he's now apparently representing the (what will be) ex-Pres for the Senate prosecution after the inauguration. I'd be interested how that works - for either of them !

No one could argue that Trump is anything other than a dumb narcissist who should never have become president. But his rhetoric chimed with many, many Americans. 75 million voted for him.

Looking ahead, all it will take for the Republicans to get back in is for them to select an intelligent and adept candidate who will espouse 95% of Trump's policies.

Trump being dumb is an incorrect observation.

He didn't take top job to do something for the country, it was all about him, by calculation.

He knew Covid was serious (he has advisors including Fauchi) but was either not interested or too inexperienced to do something about it.

The lies he told (@ 41,000+ ?) were not accidental slips of the tongue, he was trying to mislead and manipulate people.

The fact that he doesn't know capitals of other countries etc, is just because he's not interested, he doesn't care.

He is a narcissist tho.

Its easy to throw rocks at Trump, I've thrown enough, but his legacy includes Biden adopting America first, in terms of jobs, and not curbing fossil fuel use and some exploration. OK the positives outweigh the negatives and pleased that he lived for his inauguration. Hopefully to see out his presidency too. But doesn't feel particularly radical..
Trump may be out of office but the legacy remains. There is a lot of work for America to do if those divisions are ever going to narrow. I watched the inauguration after show with some discomfort if I am honest. Celebrity after celebrity, most of them wealthy beyond their wildest dreams and thought, just what is going to change here? The problem is the notion of elitism and Biden is never going to reach those millions who bought into Trump in that way. The radical thing to do would have been an after show led by ordinary people, something that at least tried to represent ordinary America. And that really is the question isn't it? Trump may have been part of that elite, and indeed the swamp itself, but he at least raised the question of draining it. Public consciousness has changed. Virtual signalling from wealthy elites isn't going to work anymore.
The idea that Biden and Harris will be radical is laughable. There are too many vested and powerful interests in the US for there to be anything really radical, like, for example, a nationwide network of high-speed trains, universal income, etc. America is conservative and elites - left and right - rule. The Twitterati are en vogue right now but both the P and VP are long-time politicians who know they have to compromise and water down their attractive, vote-grabby "promises". Right now, just turning back the clock on Trump's decisions is just that - a 180 turn of the dial. The right-wing will continue to have influence and any number of millennial-friendly concerts won't change that. Also, millennials get older and have to pay bills and deal with life and will lose their zeal, at least a fair share of them. Now, had it been the other very old man with white hair, maybe it would have been different...

WHAM - Well Nigello he's certainly upset the TERFs on day one - might or might not be radical depending on your stance but he's sticking to his principles.

On to day two.

And BAM - All undocumented Immigrants should have a pathway to citizenship

Imagine Priti Patel doing that - although she's just call them illegal aliens.

"And top Latino and immigrant advocacy groups who?ve seen details of the coming package said they were stunned by the boldness of Biden?s plan."

?We were totally floored by the immigration plan and the level of clarity,?

    • So, i've had time to think about ever step of this incident. The main points are: I'd entered my pin number and was on the screen/page where you put in how much you want to withdraw At exactly that point the guy appeared and said the machine had taken his card, and started waving his hands over screen A 'menu' option came up on screen with two choices, one bottom left, one bottom right The bottom left option said something about entering a code to continue with transaction The guy was saying "press that or it'll take your card" - I didn't press either but he might have I haven't ever seen these on-screen options before - I didn't enter any details The guy then disappeared I pressed the 'cancel' button on keypad - the physical keypad - same screen options remained - no card was returned Within 30 seconds of me realising card wasn't coming out I froze card on banking app and immediately had two txt msgs from bank saying transactions were being declined (but one for £251 had already gone though). The ref on bank statement for all three was: CARDTRONICS UK LTD BT KIOSK O/S 54 EA. Bank statement also said the date, time and that there was a £1.50 ATM withdrawl fee.  I checked to see if there's a cashpoint in newsagent next door, but there's not. The cashpoint at petrol station is free so no ATM fee there eiher.
    • Indeed and I am sure many will go for the music, which I also like. But, for me, at least, none of that makes up for or justifies the wider impact on the park, on the flora and fauna, on the parks' regular users, and on those living near by that are distressed by the noise- the next three days will not be Lover's Rock. In terms of overall impact, we are also talking weeks and months, with the aftermath always problematic with the main area so damaged it has to be reseeded each year and is rendered unusable the rest of summer. My biggest fear is that they will start to grow and add to this event, each year.
