Hi there all cake enthusiasts,

My name is Paul and i am a cake maker but finding it difficult to get my hands on sugar craft items locally.

I was forwarded a survey with just 10 questions (see attached link) from a friend of who also makes cakes, and we both agree that this survey would indicate that a cakecraft shop is needed in South London, and the proposed areas are; SE5, SE17, SE22, SE23 & SE26.

You do not have to disclose your personal details, and there is also a chance for you to receive ?20 just for your participation.

To participate, simply click on the following link: http;//www.surveymonkey.com/S/VQYCYBS

It would be fantastic if this proposed store could open up in Dulwich, as I can only get my cakecraft materials from Kent or online.

Happy cake baking folks!

It does sound like it doesn't it? A list of postcodes sounds suspiciously like a contractual restriction in a franchise application.

Doesn't get away from the fact that cake baking is a sound enterprise, and well worth the support of a local supplier.

Paul, you know there's a WI locally? They're very young, attractive and outgoing - but into things like cake and judo.

Incidentally,

?

And not to rain on anyone's parade, a former employer of mine, who has a large supermarket on Dog Kennel Hill, launched a range of baking stuff (a lot of it only previously available from specialist cakecraft shops) earlier this year, so I do wonder just how specialist this stuff has to be to find a niche. And if it's that specialist, whether there's a market to sustain it.

But what do I know: I don't even really like cake.

I make cakes professionally and I travel to Bromley, Kent to get my supplies - www.cakecraftworld.co.uk

Ebay is fine for some things but you can't hire novelty cake tins from ebay and if you were to order multiple items the postage & packaging costs wouldn't make it worth it.

I would love to see a local cake craft shop & I am sure it would be useful to home bakers too if they wanted to

delve into the world of baking a little further.

I like the Jane Asher shop in Chelsea, and they're very good online as well.

Having said that, I would absolutely not turn down the opportunity to have specialist cake supplies on my doorstep! Though it might prove detrimental to my bank balance. And my kitchen is already covered in edible glitter...

    • Does anyone have any experience reducing the solar gain from their windows and roof lights?  E.g. using window film, low u-value glass and/or external shutters? What and who do you recommend?  How much did it cost and when?  We have a fairly standard south facing ED terrace with Velux windows (internal blinds only), a roof light, uPVC double-glazed sash windows and wooden double-glazed french door all fitted 2015ish. Trying to future proof the house against future hot summers without resorting to air con.
    • I think these kids are starting to come from the park into residential road I live of a road very close to the park and just had a kid knock on door stood with his tongue hanging out clearly trying to intimidate and his friend was laughing. Is there anything  I can do in terms of registering it with the police ?   edit - called 101 and gave a very detailed  description (sorry I’d have deleted the post  if I could !)
    • Well, he’s just turned up. 17 days.  very thin and seems a bit traumatised. Presumably been trapped somewhere.  I’d love to know where!
