The three chaps who manifestly aren't fixing the gas leak outside my house for the past three months are reading their papers in the van. One of them theoretically operates the digger, one of them sometimes gets into the hole and then gets out, but the third chap's function is puzzling. He occasionally eats a cake and every now and again gets the ginger one in a headlock.

Frequently they all talk on their phones and sometimes a fourth one arrives and they all stare into the hole and smoke cigarettes.

Sometimes I think I should invite them in. It must be cold out there.

As they are not currently orbiting the planet, that would suggest said gas leak has been fixed...

that'll be me - steve has met me and knows my name

Mayeb these workmen are slackers but I can't imagine any company being that badly managed they could get away with that for so long. It's probably not just tardiness butthey may be dependant on people off-site as well

But if they are slacking, that's why I wondered whatthe response of the company in question was

    • DKH was two form entry, it is now one form entry to cope with the fact it was far more under subscribed than other schools in the area. They had actually combined year groups into single classes, 3/4 and 5/6.  When a school changes name, it’s usually because of a bad reputation perhaps the results.  The new name is dry with no history unlike its current name. It’s a very sketchy decision. It’s an expensive vanity project for someone.  What  will happen if the name change does not increase applications to the school?
    • @first mate I assume Alice made a mistake, as she removed her reaction.  I was wondering about park wardens. As I said, there was one there last night, who was incredibly helpful and proactive. As well as bringing me to the police, he caught up with a young guy on a bike who'd earlier been the victim of an attempted theft by these kids and linked him up with the police too. But I do wonder, as I've only very occasionally seen him riding around, how many they have and what hours they patrol. I've no doubt they'd be a strong deterrent if they had a better presence. They were nowhere to be seen the first time around.  Update: I've just found this: https://services.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/community-wardens The guy in the photo at the bottom of the page was the lovely warden of last night and I've just now remembered him telling me he's based in Burgess Park. Anyway, there needs to be more of them, as I rarely see one in Peckham.
