Venue for a one year olds party!

On iPhone, apologies for typos etc. Seb is one a week before Xmas and I am stuck for ideas for party venues. Tried the Florence but they don't hire out the playroom, boo. Any reccomendations? Our place is out of the question- too small, many stairs, sebs mum and dad not fans of cleaning etc (ahem)

I went to a first birthday at The Prince Regent pub in Herne Hill last year. There's a huge upstairs room with a bar and the hosts brought lots of toys and created a corner for the babies.

We had upstairs at mag. But have to go in to book! People use the herne too I think?

Hi Ruth - I have the same problem. Little C is one on 23 December. I reckon we're going to have a shin dig at the Herne in January when everyone is in need of a good party and we're not competing with Christmas. It has a room at the back that you can hire and the bigger kids can go on the outdoor climbing stuff if it's dry.

(Plus it's staggering distance from us for me after one babycham too much) :)

I wouldn't recommend the herne for an important event, they made a big mess of my SIL's 60th and then were rude to boot!

We had our son's 1st birthday upstairs at The Mag and it was fab.

Yup, The Mag is a popular one. I delivered a cake to Push Studios on Saturday, room/studio with

mirrors all on one side - very clean and spacious and only 70.00 pounds from what I can

remember being told.

What about the back of All Fired Up on E.dulwich rd? I've not had a party there but I go to music classes there and I passed the other day and there was a kids party at the back and it looked lovely...

on second thoughts maybe its for older kids.....not sure about painting and pottery for a one year old, but maybe they just hire the venue?

Does anyone know what various places charge for venue hire (or min numbers/spend) at all? I've got a christening/1st Birthday party coming up and it seems to be too early in the day for anyone to answer the phone (and I can't find the number for the mag?) Thanks.

We had a joint 1st birthday party upstairs in the Mag in October and it was 80 pounds for 2 - 6pm. We didn;t need the bar up there (we brought the party food with us and then got drinks from downstairs) so not sure what the minimum spend is if you use the bar (prob more for an evening event?)

We had a small lunch/party upstairs at the Prince Regent (near Herne Hill station) in the afternoon (1-5 pm I think) in December and it was only ?50 for two huge rooms. The rooms are lovely with high ceilings and big fireplaces, lots of sofas, and space for a big long table. There is a bar up there too and they had a bartender serving us exclusively pretty much the whole time.

In the evening the rooms cost more to hire. I think it was ?150 for the front room with the sofas and bar, and ?100 for the back room.

Hi everyone,

If you're wanting some baby music at your party (in home or at any of the pubs above :) ), I teach a baby and toddler music class in East Dulwich which I can also come and do privately for birthday parties. Normally the structure follows my music class structure so we do some singing and dancing and playing instruments. I bring all my music things and it lasts an hour. Really it works best if the adults are all up for getting involved as well as it's more about you interacting with your child in a positive musical way and the children interacting with each other than everyone watching an "entertainer". If you have time why not come along to one of my classes to see if it's what you're looking for. They're drop in at the following times above soup dragon on lordship lane:

Tues, Wed, Fri 3:30-4:30

Sat 10:30-11:30

Lot's of times when I do parties it's for children who come to the class and then they're familiar with the structure already and find it really special to have it in their homes so it could be nice if you have the chance to pop in for a class beforehand!

My rate is very affordable, I'm available at short notice and I would be happy to adapt the class with your favourite songs if you'd like.

We did have a mixed age range of 7 months to 3 year olds present.

Bea arrived on time and was really lovely and heaps of fun. She enquired up front which songs my child would enjoy and recognise and included them in her mix. Bea also brought some instruments and toys to encourage interaction and got all us mums up and singing and dancing too.
