Doula/weaning help urgently wanted

CFAR

Recommended Posts

I'm struggling to get my baby properly on to solids. We started off well at 6 months but she has recently had an ear infection and now a cold, as a consequence she is rejecting all food. She is now 10 months old.

Is anyone able to recommend a weaning expert or someone who can support this phase?

Thanks

Have you approached your HV? (before looking at paid options!).

It's really common for a regression to occur after illness and important not to

be stressed/anxious about mealtimes as that could add to her reluctance.

This is really helpful to look at for ideas and reassurance: http://www.firststepsnutrition.org/newpages/Infants/first_year_of_life.html

Finally remember up until 1yr old, the majority of nutrition still comes from milk and

the most important thing is for baby to be able to move food round the mouth/chew/swallow and

be familiar with different textures rather than eat certain quantities.

I agree with buggie. Under one year old, food is more about learning (and playing!) than nutrients. Sometimes it can take a long time to get back 'on track' after an infection, even with older children. If you have a real concern over your child's nutrition, then checking in with your GP practice/HV is a good idea.

There also used to be some weaning classes run locally. I can't remember if they were NCT maybe? That could be a good option too. xx

    • We were hoping to have a meal at Monkatsu  last night (Sunday), after having been out all day. Online information gave the closing time as 10pm. We got there around 8.30pm and they wouldn't give us a table because "the kitchen closes in half an hour." Surely it doesn't take half an hour to make a meal? We've never had to wait that long when we've eaten there before. Has anybody else had this happen? We ended up going home and getting a delivery, which wasn't how we had envisaged the end of a nice day 🙄
    • That place did only have pizzas on the menu, to the best of my recollection. We ate there once, the pizzas were ok but the room was not exactly atmospheric. Il Mirto has  a lot of pasta dishes on the menu,  but that also never seems busy. It's small and out of the way,  and easily forgotten if you're looking for somewhere to eat, I suppose.
