Isn't there a difference between getting a report on genetic heritage and finding out whether or not two specific people are related?

I'd have thought the former would be more complicated, more expensive, and done by commercial companies?

Sorry crossed post with above.

Thanks for the interesting mix of replies so far...

This is the sort of genetic ancestry test I meant - they usually seem to be about ?80 but I was wondering if some are more accurate than others. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/dna/?s_kwcid=ethnicity+testing+dna&gclid=COyW-rmdxNMCFUVmGwodfasBiw&o_xid=64490&o_lid=64490&o_sch=Paid+Search+Non+Brand#dnaFaqWrap

I've read that different firms give different "readings", thought that could be something do with the way they present the information. I think there are different price categories, the more expensive ones being more precise in their information. Why not do a search of Which? and other consumer societies before you spend your money.

www.23andme.com is the other big one floating around at the moment... apparently gives you more of an insight on genetic traits and stuff.

My mum did an ancestry one not so long ago and was a bit disappointed with the level of information received. Of course all of these services depend on more and more people contributing to give more comparisons. Suppose it depends how deep you want to delve.

    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
    • I haven't used them myself but I noticed recently that "Snoots" in Forest Hill is going unlimited primary care for £33/month, so basically a subscription. Easy access on the 176 from East Dulwich. I have no idea what it includes so read the contract! It's a chain but only 5 branches so not a mega corporate. 🤷‍♂️ https://www.snootsvet.com/find-us
