Seabag
rahrahrah Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> People watching and filming, but haven't talked to> police. FfsIt happened near to me, and initially this was the case. Fear, shock, and other things take hold. But eventually people do the right thing. I was a witness at the Old Bailey, then so were the others who quitely came forward. The right people were locked up, for a very long time. But it's harrowing to witness and then talk about in court, knowing you may be key to the case in some bigger or smaller part. And being a witness is a heavy burden, even though you know it's the right thing to do, you're essentially putting the people where you'd never want to be, in jail. Life isn't ever quite the same after that moment. So have faith, in general good people don't like to see bad people in their comunity. Earl Aelfheah
Fair enough seabag, perhaps my comments a bit unfair. It's just the idea of people standing filming something like this and then not giving that evidence over to the police? I guess it's easy to ignore the stress and shock. I hope they come forward. Seabag
turtle Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Not too stressed to film though....?Obviously not, what's your point tho?Filming and coming forward straight away are two different things. I'm not defending it, but one thing is that with some of that film, it will end up in the police hands. And whatever our 'opinion' on those filming, it will possibly be useful. I was there in Peckham that day, I saw the crowd as I came out from the Bussey building. I also saw many many people taking photo's on phones. What the fekk people want photo's of a crime scene for I don't know, but it happened when the boy round where I live here was stabbed to death in the street, and someone posted (later removed) a shot of the scene onto Facebook. I can't see why people would want to do that, but that only my personal view. The world's a raw and horrible place sometimes, and we don't always act our best selves. But I'm cautious to judge to eary on stuff like this. The best outcome is the police are assisted in their enquiries, and a strong evidence based case prosecutes the crime. What your opinion or anyone else's is, is irrelevant. Mystic Mog
My point is that I find it strange people would want to film a catastrophe unless they wanted to help catch the perpetrators, it seems to happen a lot. As you have kindly pointed out, my view or anyone else's is irrelevant. FYI, it's not about limitions, it's about the nature of the inquiry from Turtle. On one hand passing some slightly snide comment about people filming, watching such events. Then hovering round mawkishly offering some kind of 'sympathetic' enquiry about the event.Other than that, nose & ointment comes to mind. Seabag
intexasatthe moment Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> You're right Alice ,not really an occasion for nit> picking .Therein lies the rub, the description of crime as an 'occasion' like it's a visiting fun fair. It's a murder, not something to fish for information at for vicarious pleasure or make comments like "gosh, did I miss the memo" or "Not too stressed to film though.."And I'm not sure Alice's "We all seem to care so much" comment was meant to back anyone up.I suggest you go back to the beginning and read the Met's memo on the OP's link. There's nothing I see there that suggests people aren't assisting the Met in all the ways they can. But the following posts are revealing of knee jerk prejudice in such cases, with the assumption that 'people' aren't assisting the MetRah-rah heated the info up to serve a purpose unknown, and from there it snowballed into Turtle's snide comment that was short hand for what I said above. However, as I said previously. It's mawkish in my view to seek info on incidents that don't really have anything to do with you, or at it's worst it's "virtue signalling" of which nobody likes to be called out for.And yes, harsh as it is, I stand by my comments. This news you seek isn't a form of arms length entertainment. Let the Police do thier job, and if your unsure as to what goes on, then sit back and keep you 'sympathies' in check, and maybe reflect on doing something useful with them.
