East Dulwich-wide Yard Sales?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to the area but in previous boroughs there were often pre-arranged dates for area-wide yard sales, i.e. a weekend with those with bits to sell open their front or back garden to sell to neighbours and so you can do a little trail of houses in the area and shop people's odds and ends/paint tins/kids clothes/baked goods and the like - anything like this in ED? Thanks! Alex

I quite like this idea, as I often have items to dispose of & it means that I could focus on doing a yard sale on a particular weekend, rather than just 'sometime soon'

However, it would need someone to loosely organise it and I don't have any free time atm.

Somebody did try to start something like this a few years back, but to the best of my knowledge it never happened.

It was called something like a jumble trail.

It was originally publicised on here, does anybody else remember more?

Yes, I wonder why it didn't work. When I was in Walthamstow there were a lot of very active community Facebook groups for selling/giving away items, the events were publicised well on FB through event notifications etc.

Time and mind sets have changed.....so people are down sizing or just freeing up space in their homes......so the Jumble trail is the method being used at the moment .....It's good ,If you want to champion it in your area ....get in touch on line

They take away most of the work.....Try it......a good community project, without the trappings of going to a car boot or the like

There's one in West Norwood on Sunday 2 July - so don't choose that day! Details at:

This is not where I live - I was just sent the ad, but it might give you an idea exactly how it works.

Good luck!

Hi

Despite my good intentions, I've had too much on to get organised

If anyone is interested in holding a yard sale in September let me know which dates are good for you, & I'll register the most popular date on jumble trail, & put a post in the "what's on" section

(Not 2nd Sept as I think that's the date for Peckham Rye Fete)

Best wishes (& happy sorting!)

    • Errr the signs on the fences....there were signs telling people how long the disruption was going to be under the original plans (diversions of public footpaths etc) and now the council has attached a new one over the top telling them that Brockwell Live are responsible for remedying the problems and the fences will be up "until further notice". I suspect they are going have to re-seed or re-lay large swathes of grass and that requires some time to bed in so I suspect the Brockwell Wall will be up for some time. If you want to go look yourself head on over to the BMX track at the top of the hill and you will find one of the signs there - I was there today.
