Alan Dale
Why not let the people at channel 4 know what you think about the quality of network television by responding to their link in the wanted section?http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?9,49359 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1514-latest-angle-on-property-tv-programmes/ Share on other sites
*Bob*
You could respond, but C4 wouldn't get to hear about it.The posting is from an independent production company, not C4. And you could well make a shed load of cash to boot! *Bob*
In all seriousness...If anyone can come-up of a genuinely original and workable TV format, a small fortune awaits. No excuses about 'not knowing the right people' or 'not being able to get your foot in the door'.. TV production companies are crying-out for THE NEXT BIG THING, delivered to them on half a side of A4, written in biro. They're crying-out for it, because it's so bloody hard to come-up with anything. You can probably count the number of true groundbreaking formats on but a few hands (yes.. articial or not, Alan, before you say it)So come-on.. let's have it! I'll even present it for you.. we can come to some.. arrangement.. ha ha Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1514-latest-angle-on-property-tv-programmes/#findComment-41615 Share on other sites
Alan Dale
My mate put in a pitch for a quiz show where members of the public actually staked their own cash in the hope of winning large sums. Televised gambling with significant emotional fall-out.A good idea- imagine watching Trisha-trash gambling their last ?100 in the world and losing. He blew the pitch though because in spite of the originality of the concept he made the actual show almost indistinguishable from Bullseye. He got a number of polite rejection letters from various production companies. It is difficult to be creative LTP that's why I am glad that I have my City and Guilds hairdressing certificate. Gives me something to fall back on if I run out of topiary ideas or lose my touch with the shears. *Bob*
It's hard to imagine television before 'Millionaire' or 'Big Brother'. But it did exist.Someone had to come-up with the ideas. Then the rest of us have to suffer the re-hashes and copycats for the next decade until someone else comes-up with something new. ChavWivaLawDegree
How creative can you be about yet another sell-yer-house programme? What about a soap based in Soho, with all the sex shops, walk in brothels, clip joints, unsavoury pimps, drug dealers and Cafe Nero/Patisserie Valerie/arty types all mixing it up! Jah Lush
Hate to disappoint but surely that's been done already back in the 70s:- Budgie, which starred Adam Faith as Budgie Bird. Anyone remember that? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1514-latest-angle-on-property-tv-programmes/#findComment-41933 Share on other sites

ChavWivaLawDegree
Never saw Budgie, but I don't think it would be as raw as anything I would want to write Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1514-latest-angle-on-property-tv-programmes/#findComment-41937 Share on other sites
mamafeelgood
it is really hard to develop good ideas as good ideas are hard to come by. it's not entirely the commissioner's faults, although i have seen them make terrible editorial decisions. ultimately if an idea is good it will be picked up and made, there is quite a lot sitting on shelves waiting to be broadcast. it's easy to shout at the telly but go ahead and make something better. the budgets are not silly money, television is not film, 120 grand to make 60 minutes high (note the use of the word high) quality telly is actually little. this figure represents what you were lucky to get 6 years ago, lord knows how it's gone down now.if anyone is at all interested there was a piece in the guardian media section last week where they pitched spoof ideas to the channels. they said no to the nuts ideas. Rolo Tomasi
I'll do both as variety is the spice of life! Careful with Chez Valerie though, one misplaced word/look and they'll have your eye out. Jah Lush
Sorry Chav, I guess you're too young to remember Budgie. It was pretty raw for the time. Soho and it's various lowlifes, the criminal fraternity, porn shops, you name it it was all there. Could write an update and call it something else with different characters. Always good to chance your arm with a decent, well written script. Good luck. Keef
Actually, there was a series following a few people living in soho a cople of years ago. Can't remember what it was called, but some of the subjects were wealthy and trendy, some were seedy as you like. Quite an interesting mix. AnotherPaul
How about 'Cake n Crack Valerie' We see Valerie Singleton in Chez Valerie interviewing poor and rich alike about their love of cakes and crack. Then mash it up, the cake lovers do crack and go out big in Clapton, then the crack lovers just try not to do crack and hold it together surrounded by dainty cakes and old dears whilst Val asks them how it all feels.Balls, that's just wife swap with different details isn't it. I agree, the format thing is hard. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1514-latest-angle-on-property-tv-programmes/#findComment-42120 Share on other sites
