Coconut and glass smashing in road

When I moved to the area over 2 years ago there were two or three Sunday nights when dozens of glass bottles and coconuts were thrown and smashed in the middle of the road, in the early hours of the morning (resulting in passing cars crunching on the glass and coconuts for the rest of the night). As far as I'm aware it hadn't happened since but happened again last night (just with the coconuts this time!). I'm wondering if anyone else is aware of this bazaar occurrence, it's been happening at the top of Bromar road (off Dog Kennel Hill)...

I would guess it's related to Thaipusam - a Hindu festival, where it's traditional to smash coconuts in some cultures.

Could be wrong though.

This years Thaipusam was 19th-21st January so that would make sense.....

thanks guys, that could explain it. Although last time it was around November time and there was a lot of glass too! If anyone else has noticed the same thing I'd be interested to know... mystery!
