Layla's Mum
Could anyone tell me what the going rate for cleaners is generally? I have been paying ?10 per hour through a small agency and they just increased the rate to ?12 per hour. I think that sounds pretty steep. Could anyone share their experience of this? Saffron
We pay ?10/hr, but our cleaner is freelance (not an angency). That seems about right to me. Agencies tend to charge a bit more, but then you have the security of knowing that you're going through an agency. melbourne groover
I suspect we are using the same agency, is it because of vat registration? I was not sure whether to say something or just look around for someone else. I had thought ?10 ph was the going rate for an agency. Layla's Mum
Yes, because of the VAT registration. I feel that other agencies manage to absorb this cost so this one should do so too, but wanted to make sure I was justified in saying that before saying something. VALFR59
Hello, I pay 8 pounds per hour, non agency. And i realise by yours messages that our nice women cleaner is not so expensive! at the beginning, i found her expensive because in France, the prices are lower for house cleaners (around 6 pounds by non-agency).I sometimes receive to my letter box offers for private women cleaning and the prices are around 8 ?/H Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15649-going-rate-for-cleaners/#findComment-408492 Share on other sites

damzel
My cleaner charges ?9ph but I round it up to ?10ph as my mother who is retired does a bit of cleaning for a bit of extra cash and says that as it's such hard work, she doesn't think anyone should do it for less than a tenner an hour. Fair enough mum, I said! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15649-going-rate-for-cleaners/#findComment-408523 Share on other sites

dutchestatefamily
I am also with this agency and am thinking about looking for another cleaner. Can anyone recommend their cleaner? I am looking to pay ?10/ hour. Many thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15649-going-rate-for-cleaners/#findComment-408563 Share on other sites
Saffron
How much you pay might also depend on much you like your cleaner, how good a job s/he does. Hubby and I think our cleaner is tops, and we even gave her a holiday bonus. Maybe it also depends on how trashed your house is... I'd personally feel a bit mean giving our cleaner less than ?10/hr. Anyone who's ever seen our house on a Monday (cleaner comes on Tues), would probably think ?10/hr is a bargain! If you're going through a small agency, how would they 'absorb' the cost for vat etc, just curious? Also, you might want to find out if the rise in cost will benefit the employees or if it simply reflects overall rising cost of living in London. new mother
I had the best cleaner in the world a few years ago at 10/hour direct to her. It was expensive but she was totally efficient so I viewed it as money well spent. Unfort, I moved across London and lost her. We now have agency girls who I have had to train completely - 8.50 an hour. I wldn't pay more for their work as they are very slow indeed and so end up being paid much more than a good cleaner at a tenner an hour would be. I'd be quite happy with 10/hour - and I give what I consider good bonuses at Christmas etc (100 pounds - is that good?)if she is efficient. Not otherwise. Yup, that can be a reason agencies cost more! :-( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15649-going-rate-for-cleaners/#findComment-408758 Share on other sites
Mamifio
I think I may also be using the same cleaning agency as you. Just went up to ?12ph from ?10ph due to VAT increase. A little too much for me so looking for another cleaner!
