It's appalling that any MP would send out such a Tweet, nothing more than 'traitor' dog whistling. I wonder if she applies the same 'cricket test' to Asians who attended faith schools etc?

Interesting to hear some Brexit vox poppers saying that they are annoyed that there is no overall 'Brexit Dividend' for the NHS as promised by the Leavers. A Sky poll yesterday also reported that a clear majority don't believe there is one either. Slowly but surely some people do appear to be waking up from what they have sleepwalked into.

It's quite incredible that a Prime Minister can brazenly claim there is a dividend, when clearly there isn't.

One theory why she said that is that it's to act as a sweetener to the Brextremists ahead of big concessions she'll have to make at the next EU summit at the end of this month. Prepare for more disgruntled Brexit voters...

Jacob Rees-Mogg has just tweeted that "The Brexit dividend is obvious, if you spend less on one thing it is available for something else." Felt compelled to reply "I spend many hundreds of pounds per year to keep up my subscriptions with various agencies and professional bodies. If I ditched them I would indeed have hundreds of pounds extra - and I would lose tens of thousands as I wouldn't get any work."

You should! How can he get away with this crap? Smaller economy = less spending on EVERYTHING

I'm not sure the Brextremists give a sh*t about the NHS. They probably want to privatise it. Another theory is that the Tories want to show that the NHS is safe in their hands. Could be they are preparing for a GE or even another referendum on Brexit.

'We can't all move our businesses to Ireland like Rees-Mogg. We can't all get French citizenship like Nigel Lawson. We can't all live off our EU pension like Farage. British people will suffer from this shambles & be forced to bear the brunt of hard Brexit.'

Enjoyed this from David Lammy this morn...

"Corbyn read out a message he had received from Andrew, a Honda employee in Swindon, who expressed worry about his post-Brexit prospects. The Labour leader rebuked Tory MPs who were barracking him, saying: ?I would not laugh if I was you. These are real people with real jobs and real concerns.?

After May accused Labour of seeking to ?frustrate Brexit?, Corbyn responded: ?I doubt that Andrew from Swindon is alone among skilled workers where he goes on to say: ?I will hold the prime minister and her party culpable if my job and those of my colleagues at Honda end up being under threat.??"

Corbyn's just waiting for someone to challenge him on the existence of these people :)

You haven?t actually *read* the article, have you? It doesn?t paint as rosy a picture as you?d like to make us believe. Yes BMW are staying, but like the rest of business they?d like to be reassured that the supply chain will be unaffected, something which you lot have not addressed yet.

And what the hell has that got to do with your Brexit position? How on Earth can you think that backs up your point? James Dyson moved his whole operation to Indonesia with an EU loan, and he?s a massive Leaver.

Classy. Someone says something that challenges your view of how things are progressing and you assume he?s on drugs. I don?t suppose you stopped for a moment to ask yourself if he actually has a point?

I have news for you - people ARE confused by Brexit. And that is YOUR fault. Yes, you personally. You and every Leave voter. You voted for this, it?s now your personal responsibility to handle it correctly. And you?re not. You wanted this, you need to be controlling it.

I was talking with a committed Leave voter yesterday; he?s furious at how the govt straight away sold out the fishing industry, which is 100% behind Brexit. He doesn?t understand why we aren?t being firmer, and there?s plenty like him. Leave, Remain, those that didn?t vote or didn?t care, none of them can tell us right now what exactly is goinb on. That?s a failure by any measure, and it?s your fault. All of you.

You voted for this, and you?re #%^*ing it up, completely. Well done, hope you?re proud of yourself.

Brexit is a symption of the infection. When we focus on process and minutae, we can miss the big picture, even it it staring us in the face. There is something deepy wrong in UK society- as much as i detest the bull headed gammon ramblings, I dont think that many of them are able to view the big picture- and i hate to say it, i can kinda understand their tubthumping to a degree- brexit isnt going to make any of these ills go away
I cannot wait for Brexit and if it isn't delivered as it was meant to be, end of free movement, reinstating British Law as the highest law in the land etc us Leavers will fight on because it's worth it for our democracy. MP's are not there to decide what's good for us, as some Remainers like to argue, they are there to represent us and the sooner they do the better. All these arguments about job losses etc were fully played out during the referendum and Leavers considered, with all things considered, Brexit is the only acceptable way forward. There will be positives and negatives as with everything in life, Remainers prefer to play up the bad, which you can do, but all it does is harm the national interest, it does not get you a second vote. Why? Because then there will have to be a third, a fourth, a fifth ad infinitum and we are not Ireland, we do not vote until the little people finally give the 'right' answer.

brexiteers have a tenous and ill founded grasp on the real world sometimes, as do EU flag waving remainers. this isn't about racism. Brexit will never bring about this poorly defined ideal of freedom any more than remaining in the EU will. The sooner everyone realises that they have been sold a mangy pup over the past century and have been taken the piss out of , the sooner we can move on and actually distill something good out of this.

big pictures are better than thunbnails, arguemnts about racism on either side are a diversion and a convenient sideshow that takes the focus away from the inherent bstructural failings of the distorted mirage of democracy we have been spoon fed since birth.

    • Per Cllr McAsh, as quoted above: “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution. " Is anyone au fait with the Clean Air Act 1993, and  particularly with the state of 'Smoke Control' law and practice generally?  I've just been looking  through some of it for the first time and, afaics, the civil penalties mentioned  were introduced into the Clean Air Act, at Schedule 1A, in May 2022.  So it seems that, in this particular,  it's a matter of the enforcement policy trailing well behind the legislation.  I'm not criticising that at all, but am curious.
    • Here's the part of march46's linked-to Southwark News article pertaining to Southwark Council. "Southwark Council were also contacted for a response. "Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets & Waste said: “One of Southwark’s key priorities is to create a healthy environment for our residents. “To achieve this we closely monitor legislation and measures that influence air pollution – our entire borough apart from inland waterways is designated as a Smoke Control Area, and we also offer substantial provision for electric vehicles to promote alternative fuel travel options and our Streets for People strategy. “We as a council support the work of Mums for Lungs and recognise the health and environmental impacts of domestic solid fuel burning, particularly from wood-burning appliances. “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.  “This work is being undertaken in collaboration with other London boroughs as part of the pan-London Wood Burning Project, which aims to harmonise enforcement approaches and share best practice across the capital.” ETA: And here's a post I made a few years ago, with tangential relevance.  https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278140-early-morning-drone-flying/?do=findComment&comment=1493274
    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.             The house was lived in until Feb 23, and has been allowed to get like this.
