Looks like your "home" country rather than where you live is the default

The registertovote.eu site has been closed down at the request of the Electoral Commission.

The Electoral Commission said: ?We urge EU citizens that want to vote in the European parliamentary elections in the UK to only apply to register to vote through their local council or official websites. We welcome efforts by campaigners to encourage eligible electors to register to vote. However, our advice to anyone not yet registered is to only apply directly at www.gov.uk/registertovote.?

I've registered with https://www.remainvoter.com/. When it arrives I'll post details of who they recommend to vote for in this area...

The People's Vote campaign has published a list of parties that pass it's 'People's Vote Test', bizarrely this includes the Labour Party. Don't be fooled by this. Labour has just published it's European manifesto and it's first priority is to deliver a Brexit ''along the lines of our alternative plan''. Failing that it's next priority is a general election. And failing both, ''the option of a public vote''. Note the use of the words ''the option of'', they're there for a reason, a convenient get out clause. Also there is no confirmation that Remain must be on the ballot of a public vote.

As a lifelong Labour voter in general elections who's also a Remainer, I'm afraid there's no choice but to vote for a party that unequivocally wants to Remain, and that isn't Labour. Therefore a clear message needs to be sent to Corbyn and his Lexiteer henchmen...

I registered too.

I heard rumours (Peston) that Femi was lined up as the Peterborough remain candidate but pulled out.

  • 2 months later...

Presumably a brext/boris supporter.

I don't really understand what people expect him to do. EU have already said they're not willing to negotiate a different deal (I suppose they might accept some small tweaks). Anybody with a modicum of sense knows that "no deal" would be disastrous, and that we cannot risk reverting to a hard border in Ireland. Brexit seems like an almost impossible conundrum, but Johnson doesn't seem to have suggested concrete solutions, it's all just noise... empty words and patriotism. I have literally no idea what he's planning.. if anything.

You presume very wrong! From your phrasing I assumed you were!

In our happy united country currently

Arron is suing Carole

Richard is suing Femi

Pete North had an update on this on his blog

http://peterjnorth.blogspot.com/2019/07/femi-gets-grayling-treatment.html

but I still remember with affection when he got sued

"I will not part with a single penny - not just because I don't have it and never will, but also because I do not yield to this kind of cynical performance and whatever they take from me they are going to have to take by force. Good luck with that! Presently this consists of a collection of Normandy era plastic model tanks and a collection of 90's death metal CDs. "

Reminds me that The Great Hack premiers on Netflix tonight. I think Banks has tried to stop it. And Pete North blocked me on twitter and I know not why.

Jeremy Corbyn has said ?mandate? *again* a few times in the PMs Q?s

he said. ?Given her successor has no mandate from the people, no mandate to move into office, doesn?t she agree that the best thing the honourable member for Uxbridge (Johnson) should do is call an election and allow the people to decide their future??

And...

?We have had three years of bungled negotiations and we now have the spectacle of a Prime Minister coming into office with no electoral mandate, looking for a Brexit deal that has been ruled out by the EU or in the case of a no-deal, ruled out by the majority in this House and by anyone that understands the dangers to the British economy of a no-deal."

Expect a lot more if this in the coming weeks

Actually, it?d be good to see a video of all the times he?s uttered this ?word? he so loves.

Although he's a sensible type of Brexit supporter (North not Banks) - He can get a bit tetchy so you probably caught him in that mood :)

Supposedly Jo Swinson was in discussions with 8 Tories.

    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
    • That is also a Young's pub, like The Cherry Tree. However fantastic the menu looks, you might want to ask exactly who will cook the food on the day, and how. Also, if  there is Christmas pudding on the menu, you might want to ask how that will be cooked, and whether it will look and/or taste anything like the Christmas puddings you have had in the past.
    • This reminds me of a situation a few years ago when a mate's Dad was coming down and fancied Franklin's for Christmas Day. He'd been there once, in September, and loved it. Obviously, they're far too tuned in to do it, so having looked around, £100 per head was pretty standard for fairly average pubs around here. That is ridiculous. I'd go with Penguin's idea; one of the best Christmas Day lunches I've ever had was at the Lahore Kebab House in Whitechapel. And it was BYO. After a couple of Guinness outside Franklin's, we decided £100 for four people was the absolute maximum, but it had to be done in the style of Franklin's and sourced within walking distance of The Gowlett. All the supermarkets knock themselves out on veg as a loss leader - particularly anything festive - and the Afghani lads on Rye Lane are brilliant for more esoteric stuff and spices, so it really doesn't need to be pricey. Here's what we came up with. It was considerably less than £100 for four. Bread & Butter (Lidl & Lurpak on offer at Iceland) Mersea Oysters (Sopers) Parsnip & Potato Soup ( I think they were both less than 20 pence a kilo at Morrisons) Smoked mackerel, Jerseys, watercress & radish (Sopers) Rolled turkey breast joint (£7.95 from Iceland) Roast Duck (two for £12 at Lidl) Mash  Carrots, star anise, butter emulsion. Stir-fried Brussels, bacon, chestnuts and Worcestershire sauce.(Lidl) Clementine and limoncello granita (all from Lidl) Stollen (Lidl) Stichelton, Cornish Cruncher, Stinking Bishop. (Marks & Sparks) There was a couple of lessons to learn: Don't freeze mash. It breaks down the cellular structure and ends up more like a French pomme purée. I renamed it 'Pomme Mikael Silvestre' after my favourite French centre-half cum left back and got away with it, but if you're not amongst football fans you may not be so lucky. Tasted great, looked like shit. Don't take the clementine granita out of the freezer too early, particularly if you've overdone it on the limoncello. It melts quickly and someone will suggest snorting it. The sugar really sticks your nostrils together on Boxing Day. Speaking of 'lost' Christmases past, John Lewis have hijacked Alison Limerick's 'Where Love Lives' for their new advert. Bastards. But not a bad ad.   Beansprout, I have a massive steel pot I bought from a Nigerian place on Choumert Road many years ago. It could do with a work out. I'm quite prepared to make a huge, spicy parsnip soup for anyone who fancies it and a few carols.
