Plumbing problems in loft conversion - plumber needed

Recommended Posts

Hi

We had a loft conversion done last year and we are now getting plumbing problems. When toilets are flushed, the shower plug hole gurgles and bubbles up, toilets are not flushing well and the shower is pooling and not draining well.

I have tried numerous drain unblocking powders and liquids, bleach, buckets of hot water, draining rods to no avail. I suspect the waste pipe from one of the toilets is not at the recommended gradient.

I paid ?250 for Drain Doctor to come our and power blast the main waste pipe, which hasn't changed the situation, so i am on the hunt for a plumber who knows loft conversions and can identify the fault and fix it for me.

I have disconnected the bathroom waste pipe at the T where it joins the main waste and everything then seems to work fine. When I reconnect, the problems start again immediately. It's doing my nut in!

Any advice / recommendations / offers of services would be so welcome.

My email is [email protected]

Thanks

Toby

Suggest you do a quick visual check outside to see that you have separate 2 small waste pipes coming out at the loft level and linking in to the main external vertical waste (6") pipe. You should have at least tone such pipe.

Also what is the horizontal distance from the toilet to the external wall where the vertical waste pipe is?

Are all the other toilets in the house flushing OK?

Thanks Tomdhu. I got Dave around from Down The Drain on your recommendation. What a great shout. Such a nice guy, my dog bit him when he was quoting (she has never done that before and is a cockapoo!) and he had to go for a tetanus jab and STILL had a smile on his face, and came back to do the job 3 days later. He quoted ?240 as an estimate and charged ?165 because it took less time than he thought. I have never experienced that from anyone in a trade that charges by the hour or part of (Dave charges by the half hour btw). So I can't recommend him enough. He is our go to plumber from now on on any drainage / central heating / boiler / pipes issues from now on. Top man.

    • LTN is scam and has to go 🙂
    • Perhaps not. But I would return to the question I posed above: We have a system of democracy and if you want to debate it's pros and cons, start a thread on it. …and still no one willing to defend the claims in One Dulwich’s latest missive? Come on, there must be someone? 😂
    • To which one do you refer - the original OHS consultation from 2017? BTW here are the guidelines on consultations: Consultation is technically any activity that gives local people a voice and an opportunity to influence important decisions. It involves listening to and learning from local people before decisions are made or priorities are set.    It seems the voice only apllies if constituents agree with the council's proposals...if they disagree thays when they claim "this was not a referendum".  ...you forgot to mention that the polling was conducted amongst those who live WITHIN an LTN...an important, perhaps deliberate, ommission on your part..
    • Ahh, the local election where even if Labour said they were going to slaughter all first born, people would still have voted for them to stick one to Boris snd the tories 🤣 You really can't take that as an endorsement for a scheme that felt marginal compared to how people felt about bigger issues..
