trinidad
This has been puzzling me for some time. I am referring to the bus lane coming down DKH (from cambwell). At the end of the bus lane, there are some additional lights which allows the bus to go first. Once the bus drives passed the lights, there are some broken give way white lines on the road, and then the pinch point develops into a single lane traffic under the railway bridge. My question is, as there are broken white lines after the bus lane traffic lights, are buses expected to wait and give way to traffic, or have the right of way??? ruffers
I think you've answered the question - they're give way lines so the bus should give way I'd have thought. There's a solid white line a few yards earlier which is the stop for the red light. rendelharris
Really? I regularly ride the bus down that route and have never been on one which has jumped the light, whereas just last week, cycling through the bus lane on a green light (which had been green for at least five seconds as I approached) I was clipped by the wing mirror of a car which drove straight through the red and was lucky not to crash into the support of the bridge. Mr Django Wisteria
It's a nonsense & unclear. Just like the council screwed up with the bus route on the other side of the hill going up Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/158647-bus-lane-traffic-lights-with-give-way-markings-on-dkh-who-has-the-right-of-way/#findComment-1153056 Share on other sites
PeckhamRose
It is not unclear or nonsense. The question was reasonable and the answer correct. The section under question is a give way. :D Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/158647-bus-lane-traffic-lights-with-give-way-markings-on-dkh-who-has-the-right-of-way/#findComment-1153085 Share on other sites
luv2x
Buses are expected to wait, they can only go straight through if the traffic lights are red for the cars. I saw a bus pull into the car lane as the lights were green, and my assumption was that he didn't want to wait at the give way especially as there were no cars there. Its meant to keep the buses flowing when there is a lot of traffic, they don't have to sit at the lights and wait. trinidad
Are you suggesting when the bus lights are red, the buses are not suppose to wait at the red lights? Also the broken white lines are AFTER the bus lights, so sometimes the buses have gone through the bus green lights, but have not had enough time to join the main road of traffic, as the main road users have a green light Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/158647-bus-lane-traffic-lights-with-give-way-markings-on-dkh-who-has-the-right-of-way/#findComment-1153738 Share on other sites
ruffers
In which case the give way applies. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/158647-bus-lane-traffic-lights-with-give-way-markings-on-dkh-who-has-the-right-of-way/#findComment-1153761 Share on other sites
