Hi there,

I have a 9month old and am interested in using the pool facilities at Dulwich Leisure Centre.

I've heard before that the pools are very cold. I'm wondering if the refurbishments have improved the temperature?

Does anyone take their babies in the pool?

Thanks,

Mel

Charlotte, do you mean a real wetsuit? or one of those sun protection suits? If the former, it must be freezing still...thanks for clarifying as my little one will not deal well with a very cold pool and I want her to have good experiences of water etc...
I also have been taking my 9 months old baby to swimming class and the water is fine, not cold, not too warm (like Peckham Pulse). But there is a problem: the changing rooms are FREEZING and after swimming is a big old rush to get baby warm and dressed before you get a chance to get yourself warm and dressed as well.
New mother, it's one of those wetsuits from Jo Jo, not a sun protection suit. But there are many babies in her class in regular swimming costumes and they all seem pretty contented. Must say that I don't find the family room particularly cold either, but maybe that's just me. Although being Portuguese I would have thought that my tolerance would be lower? In any event, I have been very happy with the whole experience at dulwich pools - my toddler and baby seem very happy too.

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
