Woo hoo - well, keep us posted.

Not only does the 484 drop you virtually at the door, so does the 343. Otherwise, it's any bus going along Forest Hill Road and a walk across the park, or along the road-whose-name-escapes-me that runs along the top of the park. It's really not far.

Good luck with the re-opening h1981, are you able to divulge anything at all about the changes you are making?

I love the back room so hope that won't be changing!

Sorry not to have filled in your QA, I've only just seen it so probably too late now. Anyway the Ivy House is a long way from where I live so I only tended to go there for live music gigs unless in the area for some other reason.

Hi Sue. I am merely the messenger. I saw there was clearing out going on a couple of days ago so popped in and had a chat with the new guys. The back room is not changing and neither from what I could see is the general interior character of the place. They've already put in some good looking wooden pew type seats in the back bar area. They're the same crew who run The Joiners in Camberwell, which features live music regularly, and they'll be putting on plenty of music at The Ivy House too (how could you not?!), though because of noise issues nothing overly amplified apparently.

Anyway, they said they knew about The Nunhead Forum, so I mentioned this Forum too - hopefully they'll post some more details themselves some time soon.

Something of possible interest to those who remember the pub in its early/mid seventies "Dr Feelgood, Ian Dury, etc" days, when it was called The Newlands Tavern (and I think should be so again) - I had the pleasure of meeting the Fentimans recently who were the couple who ran the pub then. Great to hear their account of that time from the horse's mouth (horses' mouths?) and to learn how they made such a success of the place.

Hey that all sounds good, just wish it wasn't such a trek from mine :)

Wonder if they'll be doing food, just before they closed last time they had started doing Sunday roasts (I think), I vaguely remember having one during one of their all-afternoon gig things.

Memo to self: Investigate buses .....

    • Needed a new rear roof for terrace house in East Dulwich and heard about Danny Denton (07943 673482). Have worked with over 20 builders in the past but this guy was way the best - polite, hard working, honest, professional, informative, highly skilled and above all quoted lower than any of the others who came down to view the job. If you need roofing work I would definitely give him a call. If he's busy working else where I assure you he is well worth waiting for. He got the scaffold up and job finished in no time and kept me informed at every stage. Another roofer (who appears on this forum) gave a quote which was three times higher than Danny's.
    • I noticed that today too, at that corner of the Alleyn's field. Isn't it just the same as the habitual one from the school field in Greendale, just after the rail bridge?  I've never quite fixed on how and exactly where that one's coming from, but have mentally tagged it as cut grass probably fermenting.
