(I posted this in the Wanted section but realised I might get a better response here)

Hi all,

I have finally decided to retain and become a primary school teacher, however in order to complete my application I need to demonstrate some work experience in a school.

I would like to teach lower primary e.g. KS1 and wondered if there were any primary school teachers on the forum (or anyone with connections to a school) who may be able to offer me some work experience (ideally between 5-10 days). I have an enhanced CRB and I am quite flexible regarding dates.

Due to government changes regarding tuition fees I doubt very much that I will be in the position to apply to study in 2012, so I am hoping to go through clearing this summer. Although I have experience shadowing a class a few years ago, my course requires me to have experience in the year I wish to apply (this September), so I am urgently seeking an opportunity to sit-in and observe a primary school class.

If anyone can help, or has suggestions of possible schools I can approach please PM.

Thanks

Char

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
