AliM
Anyone got any suggestions? i need to go tomorrow morning with bubs in tow, which rules out Peckham Rye / DenmarkHill train because of the stairs, and we'd need to go in rush hour too. Had been thinking bus would be the best option but TFL doesnt come up with any sensible options (best was 3 different buses and a 15 minute walk!!).We can v easily get to any of Peckham Rye, Camberwell Green, Denmark Hill, or ED station on foot. Anyone know of a bus route that would work?V grateful for all ideas! Belle
We have had appointments on the Westminster Bridge side, and usually get the 176 from Lordship Lane - you then need to get off at the Waterloo Station stop (i.e. just before the roundabout) and walk under the arches, it's less than 10 mins walk - have forgotten name of the road, that runs from Waterloo station down to Westminster Bridge, with the County Hall and London Eye on the right hand side. Terrible directions sorry, but really a simple journey! buggie
12 goes right past Tommys and being a bendy bus has good access/space for buggies (especially if you get on it at ED end). Unfortunately I can believe the journey planner made the route so convoluted - do sometimes think it's designed to put you off using public transport! Mellors
If its the main bit of St Thomas's on Westminster Bridge (where the labour ward is) the No 12 (Barry Rd/Peckham Rye) stops outside. clux
I've always found that people are very quick to offer to help you up the stairs at Denmark Hill if that's the only reason you don't want to take the train. AliM
Thanks ever so much everyone for your help. I was beginning to get quite stressed about it given what TFL were saying! I have looked at where I need to go and it's on the main Tommys site so the 12 will suit us just fine. Thanks again. ClareC
I used to get either the 176 and walk from Waterloo (about 10 mins max) or get the 12 which takes you all the way. Both fairly fast to Tommy's :-)BTW I used Denmark Hill station today with a buggy and managed to get down the steps (one at a time) and half way up again the same method at which point a chap helped me and even at 7 mths pregnant it was doable (although far easier with help :-) ) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16253-best-way-to-get-to-tommys-with-baby-in-buggy/#findComment-419502 Share on other sites
crystal7
I can't stand long bus journeys with my toddler (though didn't mind when she was younger) and always try and take train, people usually offer to help with buggy or I just ask. jollybaby
I used to work at St Thomas' and have tried every route. In the end I settled on the no 12 - although it takes a winding route through peckham once you've accounted for changing trains etc or walk from Waterloo it works out about the same time as any of the others without the hassle. As it's a bendy there should be lots of room for a pram but I would try and get on as early as possible in the route ie the gardens - or maybe outside peckham rye station as lots of people get off there.
