Since having my two lovely girls my feet are half a size bigger than they used to be (sooooo annoying)....

Also the big toe on one foot seems to 'click' quite a lot and is very painful if I wear high heels - as if the pressure put on it when my foot is in that position is causing real problems. I don't honestly know if this is linked to the pregnancies or not, but it certainly never used to be an issue.

It isn't a big deal as my days of pretending to be Sarah Jessica-Parker are long gone anyway (were never really here to be honest)...but it would be nice to wear high heels now and again.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? If so did you get any help for it? I'm wondering whether to see an Osteopath, but not sure if there is much point, maybe I just have to throw out all the lovely shoes I've been hording and embrace my flatties :-(

I'm thanking the shoe Gods and Manolo himself that mine didn't get bigger but I just don't wear high heels anymore, sadly. On the occasions that I go out and do convince myself into wearing heels (we're talking high heels, not low kitten heels) I usually end up regretting it even if I'm not running after little people in them.

And certainly don't throw your lovely shoes away - think of your girls!

I have a similar sore big toe but it pre-dates the kids. I think it may be related to having flat feet. Whenever I ask a GP or podiatrist/chiropodist all I get is 'well, it doesn't seem athritic' - not sure if that makes me feel better or not! It does improve if I use the inserts for flat feet but they don't really work with 'nice' shoes.

Like you I never was that big on high heels but it would be nice to be able to wear something other than flats if going out dressed up - especially as I'm under 5 foot! Haven't found a solution yet.

Hmmmm, I do wonder if an Osteopath might be a better bet than a chiropodist, maybe I'll lead the way Nunheadmum.....incidentally, I asked some poor Mother at Ivydale if she was you the other day, obviously in error....LOL.

candj - good point re my girls - I do catch O parading around in my heels whenever she gets the chance so maybe they will see the light of day again properly one day. Can't believe I still haven't met your new member of the family, but big contratulations! xx

I want to be glam again!!

funny that not everyone seems to know about this side-effect of pregnancy - see the 'birth guru' quoted on http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/mar/08/lasting-effects-pregnancy.

Mine waxed and waned but ended up at least half a size bigger, and every time I've tried anything higher than a half-inch heel, my knee and ankle give me gyp for a week afterwards.

Mine have also grown by half a size although wonder if this is also due to no longer binding my feet in slim fitting sky high heels. The result is that I am now a size 5-and-a-half which appears to limit my shoe buying options to M and S. I am not ready to wear footglove 24/7 - anyone know of any slightly cooler retailers that do half sizes?

    • Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
    • Tawny owls are hooting in Dawsons Heights very near me. But very elusive birds. Sadly now on the amber list.  I have heard the owls every night for the past couple of weeks  It is good to know they are here. They are quite loud so I think they are very near. I have never seen an owl in the wild before and wish I  could  see them.
    • Hi, looking for a 3-4yrs ski jacket if anyone has one they no longer need or would lend if they want it back for younger siblings in future years! Many thanks
    • I used to hear at least one of those owls but haven’t for at least two years. 😕
