I was wondering where you'd been.

Easy to spot but no less a PITA, they sucked they joy out of it for me (especially on the moderation front); like constantly having to tell off a naughty child, but without any of the childish charm obviously.

Is it an addiction? Maaaaaybe.

I'd put it in the habit bracket rather than addiction, though obviously there is some overlap in the definitions.

I'm finding it hard to stop looking even though the reason I'm trying to stop is that there's very little of interest or entertainment anymore.

But those gaps in the day when you're having a cup of tea or just need to defocus brain from data and code are still there. The BBC news is a bit dull (you can skate through the lot in about 5 minutes). Social networks are blocked. I've google reader and about 60 feeds on it, but the politics ones are the only viable one. Computer gaming, comics, music etc tend to get frowned upon if they appear on your screen. Cricket World cup helps at the moment.

But it's the conversational element that pulls you in and there's so little actual discourse anymore and I think that's what's driven most away. I'll get a pang if I see quids, brendan or honaloochie posting, but they're the only one's left bravely plugging away, at least for the older posters, and perhaps most of them (ok, us) just can't be arsed to engage with new ones, especially when much of it is stuff we've seen go through the mill at least 20 times already, and the rest are frankly rather dull as much as the humour has drained away too.

It has become a curtain twitching, crime reporting local forum in the true sense, gone are the days when it was a small cozy place of like minded peeps, it was no coincidence it was called the lounge. It might as well be called 'ask stupid questions that you'd be better off googling' now.

As for deactivations, I think Ladymuck's just having a massive huff, Narnia maybe finally just got bored. I also think the football thread has a bigger negative impact than any other for those who partook, and I'm sure did for keef in the end.

Aaaaaanyway, no flounce or deactivation from me and almost certainly no 10k, just a quiet adieu ... unless of course it isn't.

I did lurk from time to time though...

Well it is. I think the local element helps a bit I've posted on other sites befor but drift way fairly quickly. You get to meet people, you have images to maintain, you get in on in jokes, you create in jokes, some people make you laugh out loud, you like to fight with others, there is actually some useful stuff, I've even grown to like the Drawing Room too. Personally I wish everyone still posted on here but understand why they don't. I've had far more return and fun out of here than say Facefuck...by miles. I'll soldier on to 10,000.

    • If you want to talk about tax you have to contextualise it - this is not a highly taxed country but it is a country that needs money - so what do you propose?   if you dk t want to live under a left wing govt that’s your choice but how do we get from left wing govt to Russia?   you make no sense
    • Nope, not "complaining or moaning", stating an opinion. Tax - yes we are taxed to the hilt, the threshold is £12570, Govts not increasing this means more and more people get dragged into paying tax. HMRC are a joke, even if you're below that figure they take tax that has to be claimed back as its wrongly deducted.  Inflation is supposedly dropping, the reality in the shops is the total opposite, week on week almost, prices increase, utilities increase etc. I don't want to live under a left wing govt, if you do, suggest you try living in Russia.
    • But only the first g in garage is a "hard" g? The second one is a "soft" g whether you pronounce it "j" or (not sure how to write it, but even softer, like a cross between "sh" and "j"?) So surely Malumbu's hard g in Farage would be like the first g in garage, not the second one? I can't believe I am wasting my time writing this irrelevant drivel 🤣
    • I'm currently on a little mission to recommend Jovaner, who I've recommended here before, and who has done lots of work for me over the years. The scope of works he can take on, and his skills, have expanded over the years. He now comfortably undertakes full house renovations, including bathroom and kitchen fit outs (he is currently doing my bathroom as we speak). He is a talented carpenter, tiler, plumber and decorator, and has the highest standards of any tradesperson I've every worked with (have a look at the kitchens and furniture that my company - West & Reid - makes for a frame of reference for my standards, if I say so myself! 🙂 Jovaner always meets and goes beyond my expectations. There aren't many people as multi-talented as him, and very few with such high standards. He is the first person I turn to when I need work done in my house - I've waited 6 months for him to do my bathroom, as he was the only person I wanted to do it. I wouldn't hesitate to get him to renovate my entire house if it needed it!  He is also the hardest working person I have ever met, and completely trustworthy, as I am sure multiple other recommendations on this site will attest to.  If you are wondering why I'm going to so much trouble to recommend him it's simply because he's so good, and every time he does a new job I am reminded of how good he is. But he constantly undersells himself, underprices his work, and has such attention to detail and such high standards that he rarely earns what he deserves for the work he does!  His number is 07429171373.  Happy to chat to anyone who wants the recommendation in person (07745553232) Malcolm
