National Rail website just isn't clear.

A group of 16 year olds of my acquaintance want to travel by train out of London (although with the journey beginning in London) this week. The National Rail website seems to suggest they should pay adult fares, or buy a 16-25 year olds railcard for ?30 to get discounted train fares for the year. It's questionable whether buying that card for ?30 would be worth it - not many of them are likely to travel by rail outside of London many times in the next year.

Are these the only two options?

These young people are still in full time education and use Zip cards to get around on the bus.

If they're travelling in the South-East, they could get a Network Railcard which gives 4 adults (ie 16+) a third off, splitting the cost of the railcard between them. The SE network includes the I. of Wight Ferry.

If going beyond the SE they could get Young Person's Railcards. They'd need one each but there are discount codes of 10-20% on the internet if you look around or if they already have a student card.

Another idea is if they haven't chosen a destination they might be able to find cheap ideas on train websites. For example, last week Greater Anglia was offering ?7 to Cambridge, and Virgin had another of its sales on recently.

    • We’re pretty much down to just sparrows, wood pigeons and the occasional great tit.  Plus parakeets, but I chase them away.    A couple of years ago we had bluetits, robins, blackbirds & goldfinches most days, but almost never now despite washing out the bird bath most days & decent regular bird seed & fat balls.  we have had a couple of sparrow hawks which was exciting, but I’d rather have the goldfinches..  v sad.
    • My garden has been completely empty of birds since I took down my bird feeders (I have to sort out the garden before I put them up again in a different spot.Cats were sitting in wait).
    • You need to book I think? We couldn't get a table when we tried!
