Moneykelly
Anyone else find this place totally unreliable? For the last five weeks I've been trying to get bread and it's either been closed or out of stock. Went in today to be told they will start stocking it again 'in September' even though everyone's been asking about it for weeks. Won't be back. dbboy
Smoothie style drinks are probably the core business. They could actually clean up on basic provisions, including fresh daily bread as there is no where locally that sells really good, Not sour dough, bread. Their loss. Jacqui5254
Important to support our local shops so hopefully they are getting on top if it.Must admit I go past it frequently and they often look empty..can't be easy if selling fresh food.Maybe needs a bit more advertising as it's a good shop? Another post about it recently.....http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1855792,1855812#msg-1855812 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/165559-potager/#findComment-1171854 Share on other sites
jimbo1964
Sadly I think it's closed. There's a note in the window to say the landlord has taken back the lease. KidKruger
Waste of a good retail premises. Was a good hardware store before - with consistent and predictable opening hours. Sue
Didn't they previously have a differently named shop somewhere round here, or am I dreaming? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/165559-potager/#findComment-1192836 Share on other sites
lucky
Did the landlord put up the rent? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/165559-potager/#findComment-1193039 Share on other sites
jimbo1964
Don't know the circumstances.. I bought some bits and bobs from there, mainly trendy bread and apples on the weekend. It's a shame it's closed as it was a nice business. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/165559-potager/#findComment-1193053 Share on other sites

I'm probably not Potager's target (out working all day) but I never really knew what it was for. Soup? Here's hoping another independent (of any type) makes a success of it. dbboy
Finally called themselves greengrocers but to be honest it was never really clear what they actually wanted to do, soup, smoothies, fruit, veg, bread, pies, other. If you are unclear about what you are those potential customers will be unclear about what you do, offer, want to offer and ultimately you get to the stage were it costs you more to run the business than you actually take, making it no longer viable to trade, sadly that's the point you pull down the shutters before the business burns even bigger holes in your bank balance. So another business fades away into obscurity because of a lack of clarity about what it did. Had the owners been smarter and they had concentrated on providing good quality basic provisions it could have been a really successful little business at that end of the parade. As some may recall many, many moons ago there was a fruit and veg stall outside what was Galleon wine, now the hairdressers that thrived for many years till some cretin burned it down I recall?? so it can be done. While the Coop is pretty hit and miss and judging by peoples opinions not that popular, although in its defence it does have a steady stream of custom a bit of competition may have helped improve standards, but then that's wishful thinking. fleur
I agree very obscure with brand ID! They still have a shop on the Honor Oak side so perhaps they never really felt the SE22 was worth investing into? Soup would have been very popular & some lighting for inside.
