Great idea Huguenot - can you help by finding this bloke's address, or alternatively arrange a meeting point and we can all go round in a sort of 'Looking for Eric' way and reek revenge.

I've been PM'd by another person who had his bike nicked, and found 'the same one' being advertised on Gumtree by the same number. Hopefully plod will do something now.

As an appendix to Pearson's good points posted earlier, I would merely add that people should strongly consider getting a FOLDING BIKE.

These can be stored inside the smallest flat, and sit next to/under your desk at work.

Therefore no expensive locks needed.

Lots are available - Brompton's are expensive but favoured by many, but there are other cheaper makes with larger wheels.

I got a bike today. Sincerely I did not think it was stolen. When I got home I saw a crack on the frame and tried contacting the seller and could not reach him anymore. When that happened I googled his number and ended up here.

The guy selling it did not look bad or like he was on drugs or anything. I checked the serial number on the net before buying too and nothing came up. He said he also bought the bike on gumtree.

It came from the same phone number mentioned here so now I am suspecting it may have been a stolen bike.

It is a specialized Elite 2011. I am willing to return to the owner if he can provide me with the serial number of the bike.

mink turtle, glad to hear you got your bike back. But did you not call the police? By the sounds of it this crew weren't the brightest, and a quick call to the boys in blue could have seen them apprehended and stopped anyone else having their bikes stolen

Well done for getting your bike back!

It might have been worth calling the police. The lad stole your bike... surely a single punch in the face falls under the "reasonable force" bracket. People can't be expected to stand by while scumbags are blatantly thieving in broad daylight.

    • Harrow.  I wish that I had done more before Covid, including putting my name forward as an executor and seeking power of attorney.  I performed the latter for my later mother, and with no executor named in her will I did probate and executed her will, all very straightforward as financial affairs all in order particularly due to the work of my sister who managed our mother's accounts. But from 2020 onward it was difficult to tell someone who was very frail she needed to change her will etc. There's a further tail about the 'friend' of my aunt who gets around 90% of the estate, and some manipulation of my aunt's finances by this friend.  Police wont get out of bed for a million or so for fraud cases so didn't go to them.
    • Is he local to South London? My father made his solicitor the executive. I, for many years had Lasting Power of Attorney to deal with all his finances including liaison with his bank and payment of his care home fees. I was also responsible for the sale of his home to release funds for care home fees. When he died, I notified the solicitor, obtained the death certificate and organized the funeral, cleared his care home of his possessions . Myself and my cousin were beneficiaries but my father had left a small sum of money to a man in the Midlands whose name was unknown to all of us including my step mother. It  took around 9 months for solicitor to establish that this gentleman had been deceased for a number of years . This obviously put additional charges onto the fees.
