Robert Poste's Child
You have to put the heating on, not because it's cold but to get the washing dry.You wear tights to work because bare legs suddenly look funny. You get an urge to buy root vegetables and make soup.Anyone else? Elphinstone's Army
Soup, yes, definitely, root veg, also baked potatoes and closing the curtains earlier - when we 'draw' the curtains, is that open or closed?laundered and put away all thin clothes, sandals etc, so summer is definitely over, all children back to school, or will be by next week, and the swallows have abandoned us for Africa. Robert Poste's Child
I haven't got as far as putting thin clothes away (never say die, at least till the clocks go back) but I've got socks and DMs on without getting a hot flush. Robert Poste's Child
I'm sitting in my kitchen wearing a fleece, hugging a cup of tea, eating speculoos crunchy spread* off a spoon waiting for the downpour to stop. In early September.*Don't try this if you're trying to lose weight as it's more addictive than anything I can remember. BrandNewGuy
Linen-cotton shorts packed away until next year, corduroy* shirts brought out for use until next May.* Yeah, that's so 2015, but I've always been a sucker for the middle-aged dad look... DulwichFox
Don't write summer off just yet. Back in Sept 2008 I won a Raffle in The Clock House. First prize was a rowing boat for 6 - 8 at Richmond. We went out on the 20th Sept. It was a scorcher in the mid 70's Sunshine all day. Stopped off at the White Swan Pub in Twickenham on the way out and the way back keeping the tide with us. Jules-and-Boo
I am loving this summer. I'd hardly even noticed that it's getting dark early.Signs it's changing - the leaves falling as I was waiting on LL the other day - took me by surprise - hot water bottle last night, bought chicken soup today and no one wanted salad with their dinner this evening. It was very hot today (well, my office is very sunny) and then torrential rain. I love it :-)I don't like autumn when we're not had a nice summer....it feels wrong. Not this year though.
