pablogrande
We are going to be in Penzance between the Easter and may bank holidays, we have to drive but have a day or so either side so we thought we would stop over somewhere each way to break up the journey. Anyone got suggestions of nice places worth staying at? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16679-driving-to-cornwall/ Share on other sites

Guest
Personally I'd want to stay west of Exeter; east of there the 'back to school' feeling sets in. On the way you could stay at Cabilla Manor near Bodmin, a b&b and home of the explorer Robin Hanbury-Tenison and his wife, who is a former High Sheriff of Cornwall. They're quite high up on the moor and it's amazingly peaceful and green. Fowey is also very lovely and reachable for dinner from there. On the way back, how about Bideford and a day trip to Lundy Island to see the puffins. Or go via Dartmoor and have tea at Castle Drogo - their tearoom has the best scones and clotted cream ever. Ted Max
The defeat of the journey East: the road flattening out before you, pinewood-gated Royalist towns stacking up junction by junction, green to brown to grey. QDED
What about Somerset? Good quiet towns like Cheddar & Glastonbury if you want a chilled day or so. Bristol's a fun, small-ish city if you want something livelier.
