Alan Dale
I think weddings are crap and previously thought marriage was unnecessary.Whilst the capital gains tax incentive already had me tempted, yesterday's announcement that I can transfer my nil band onto my missus after I go has made it almost impossible to resist. If I don't get married now then I suppose I'm just being contrary.Isn't it bad though that the government can interfere in my life like this. Everything was fine until they started trying to bribe me into getting married.Anyone else going to reconsider there marital status on the back of this announcement? snorky
Snorky faced such a challenge - and forked out ?41 for a registry office quickie rather than several thousand quid in lawyers fees to arange a safety net of arrangemnts / trusts etc to try and circumvent to status of being unmarreed with dependants Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1668-iht-and-marriage/#findComment-46017 Share on other sites
LostThePlot
Surely it is the question of wanting to be with your partner and not the financial incentives that should be the basis for your decision? Or am I being old fashioned? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1668-iht-and-marriage/#findComment-46018 Share on other sites

Keef
Depends on the person and their priorities I guess. I'm getting wed shortly (cheapo version for the record), and we're doing it... well I don't really know why, we just wanted to. Call me old fashioned, but I do like the idea of being married when we have kids... Not that I think it makes any difference to the kid, but there you go. Alan Dale
Lost the plot - Those decisions are already made. The financial incentives necessitate the legal agreements. The love, commitment and long term intent can be expressed behind closed doors without a band and a buffet.Snorky- I like it. We are / will have to. It's boll*cks. It will be down the Snorky route (aisle?) I expect. Why can't civil partnerships be available to hereto couples like they are in some other countries? Alan Dale
Sometimes you just have to put your foot down Snorky. What difference a civil partnership if it were allowed for heteros? It probably is actually.. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1668-iht-and-marriage/#findComment-46038 Share on other sites
*Bob*
Tell you what, Alan. We'll witness your wedding on the quiet if you return the favour.Mockney can be the official photographer - although obviously all the faces will need to be digitally concealed. Alan Dale
She's happy as she is but if I try to get all the forms filled in I think it might stir up her inner child who wants her day as a princess.Reading cinderella to my eldest and also her being a bridesmaid already - it's really obvious where the brainwashing sets in.Just got to convince Ms Notyetdale that she has to break her programming and save the world. Alan Dale
They can do what they want with regard to marriage.I won't be paying though. They'll be lucky to get a speech out of me. Brendan
Where?s your sense of fun Alan? Rent a morning suit, get some ribbons on the old escort, head down the registry office and then rent a pub out for a knees-up with balloons and scotch eggs. Shouldn?t cost you more than a few hundred quid. Then head to Butlin?s for a family honeymoon. Keef
Fortunately for me, Mrs Keef doesn't like the whole grand wedding sit down meal type thing (I find all that a bit hard to take), and we agreed that we just wanted to have a great party and for everyone to have fun... I even get to play guitar with the band for a while! Result!!! Result!!!Getting married is a pretty extreme way to get an audience for your guitar playing.A friend of mine did that at his 21st and later at his wedding. In fact every time he has a captive audience he starts up on his bloody guitar.Your big day though Keef. Take the piss..
